Waterproof Recommendations

Wore my Galvin Greens on Thursday and it drizzled all day. Took my jacket off at the end and the inside was wet through with sweat. I have had more hassle with that jacket than any other. An expensive failure.
They Look very nice but there has to be cheaper better alternatives out there

was it a paclite?

mine was the same, sweated like pig in it. now have the one with the lining and thats fine

Also look at Sunderland. Their latest products are good quality, great value with lifetime waterproof guarantee.

I have GG but I think their latest stuff is not as good quality. Know a few people who have had issues.

I've still got the proqip jacket and trousers that was used in the Ryder cup at Celtic Manor - 2010 I think. The entire suit was £70 in the pro shop 2 months later. Cool enough in the summer and layers underneath in the cold and it's fine. Why you'd spend hundreds on GG or any other brand is beyond me. I'd guess it's so you can show them off along with your Epic driver and everything else that's helping you nob it round in 100.

Another who will never own anything GG ever again. Absolutely guff and customer service to match.

Now own a Peak Performance gore-tex jacket which has been superb, never had an issue with it. I also own Zero Restriction kit again top class. I have some Sunice "flexvent" which has been tremendous too although I think my flexvent trousers are starting to let in at the knees. I'd buy Sunice again without hesitation.

West coast of Scotland golf means that you can never own enough waterproof kit!

If GG did a"Gold" range at twice the price people would buy them.

Goretex is a membrane that is used in lots of waterproofs, not sure why the goretex GG use should be any better than the goretex used by other manufacturers, it's the same stuff.

If you are a mountaineer then you need the very best in waterproof protection given that you could be in the elements for days on end, but to keep you from getting wet from a shower on a golf course , come on, if it gets that bad the greens will flood and the course will be closed.

If we are all completely honest , it is just more brand snobbery.

Yes the membrane is the same, however it's the outer layer(s), the inner layer, the 4 way stretch and the cut of the garments etc that GG say make the difference

It's only brand snobbery if people look down their noses at other brands. Similarly however its inverted snobbery to say someone turns up in the GG & swinging their Epic irons just to show off

Tashyboy, as LP says GG do 2 goretex versions. Yours is lined and is the"Performance" version, it will have the word Performance printed on the jacket.
The other version is "Paclite", and non lined. This too has the word Paclite printed on the jacket.
I went for Paclite as I found it lighter to swing in and my main feature was to keep dry. As LP says when it's cold I merely layer up i.e. Base layers, tops etc

In my experience, being a tall thin guy, fit is far more important than label with waterproofs. Any notional advantage of gg fabric technology over other decent waterproofs is easily offset by getting a decent fit which suits a swing. There's bigger differences in cut than you might imagine.

Have to say, as a south east based golfer, waterproof discussions are largely hypothetical. I play a decent amount, but can't remember when I last wore a set. If the weather is worse than showerproofs and a brolly I really don't need to go out.

Palm Springs full suit off e bay £30 delivered four years ago. Awesome. Never let me down even in rain of biblical proportions. Calvin Greens indeed. You guys !!!!!!
