Waterproof Recommendations

Waterproofs are well and truly humped. Looking for a decent replacement suit, which won't break the bank.

Any recommendations?
 
Break the bank, or value for money?

GG do exactly what they say on the tin. My trousers cost £190 and worth every penny, perform 100% of the time.
I have some cheaper adidas gore tex and it's just not in the same league as GG.
 
Wore my Galvin Greens on Thursday and it drizzled all day. Took my jacket off at the end and the inside was wet through with sweat. I have had more hassle with that jacket than any other. An expensive failure.
They Look very nice but there has to be cheaper better alternatives out there

Carful Tashyboy,you'll be upsetting the GG fan boys with that attitude.
 
I know it always gets said but you cannot buy better than GG. I've had loads of waterproofs over the years and none are as good. There are 2 styles, lined and unlined so if you will be playing in warm weather then go unlined or you'll have sweaty pits like Tashy :o
 
I have a GG jacket and Proquip trousers. Both have been used in hideous conditions, neither have ever let me down. If I had to replace either I'd go Proquip due to price.
 
the proquip stuff is great and not to pricy. Mine keeps me dry and I dont see why a GG would be any better.. especially at 5x the price.
 
There are some good savings on a couple of 2014 style Adidas Gore-Tex jackets on the Clubhouse Golf website at the moment. I've bought the £79.99 one, but not had need to use it yet.
 
Very happy with my Proquip clothes too, seems to be well made for the money. Some great bargains to be had on Proquip if you hunt around the internet.

Honest PS I might as well of played in a bin liner. d4s is right when he said sweaty pits. But the four of us played in a 2x Sunderland, GG, and a manky old ping coat which dont really count and we were all sweaty pitted.

What sort of GG were they - did they have a mesh inside or paclite version ?

Right now in the warm conditions when it rains there is going to be sweat inside. Most golfing tops now help release moisture from the body and then you put a waterproof on top where is the moisture to go then ?

The paclites are better - lighter and more breathable , the mesh ones will be far too warm to wear in the summer
 
When it comes to waterproofs then the top brands all produce good quality waterproofs - Pro Quip , FJ , UA , Adidas and GG plus also Sunderland

For me always go for goretex - it gives you the best chance of full waterproof as well as breathable.

I will always go for GG - yep they are a more expensive but you can tell the quality of the fit is first class

The one I have Phil just says GG Goretex on the arm and Galvin green on the back of the neck. The inside of the body is mesh lined, the arms? Polyester. Inside the neck it says quote.

So it's the mesh which is designed more for the colder temps so when you do wear it during the summer months the mesh will not be as breathable hence the sweating - wear any waterproof with a liner in it and you will sweat. Worn plenty waterproofs in the warm weather using just goretex and you sweat

You weren't wet from the rain - unless the goretex has a hole or the stitching is poor then the water doesn't go through. If they tested it with running water it wouldn't go through hence the guarantee. Can't guarantee against someone sweating no clothing ever made will stop the sweat being formed on your body and because it's also windproof then you don't get a cooling breeze

It's all about the layer system - if you are in warming times wouldn't touch a waterproof jacket with mesh and lining - paclite goretex only

I have an Alex - use it in the winter as it keeps the warm in as well as keeps me dry from the rain
 
So you need two GG jackets then?
One for Summer and one for winter..?

To be honest, I'd rather take a complete change of clothing and a towel....
Being even more honest, there's no need for me to be playing golf if it's raining hard enough to need to differentiate between supposedly waterproof tops....

You can have two if you want - it's always about using the layer system for heat and cold management - a GG Alex with a mesh has two layers in one , one that keeps you warm and one that keeps you dry.

Best way is to use a paclite with a fleece - two layers still but the fleece can be removed if it's too warm.

The H4H at West Hill - started with the Alex but it was too warm so used the paclite which was more breathable but kept me dry as a bone.
