58° Wedge recommendations

I’m guessing that you won’t be getting the new Titleist SM11s at £179. Just had an email to preorder them. Absolute joke of a price. And probably no different to the previous 3 or 4 versions.

You’d be absolutely right. Prices are ridiculous. I’ve no doubt they’re a good bit of kit but I’ve managed to pick up a Cleveland RTX 4 in very good condition for £30 so that’ll do me.

OP, get yourself on eBay, golfbidder, golfclubs4cash and the like.

You'll get good conditiones 2nd hand vokeys, TM Hi-toes, Callaways, you name it for a steal (y)

They’re brilliant wedges but prices these days are a joke

Prices of new golf clubs are ALL too expensive, but how much do we spend on our game in terms of membership fees and time, to only spoil it being tight?

If they work for you, is that not a fair investment? Or buy the last model, the one before, or wait and buy used, but scratching around for an old thirty quid jobbie is not always the best option.

I'm spending £25 on a fitting next month comparing to the SM10's. Better to chuck away that than over £200 (new less trade in/sale at say £300).

Seeing your signature list of clubs, it appears that you may have a bit more to spend on golf gear than many others. Your collection of LAB putters alone totals up to a used small car ;) I track all my golf purchases in a spreadsheet since 2017 - and it turns out all my clubs together have me at a total of Eur 668 net spend. That's just a bit more than 3 new Vokeys haha. To each his own. There are really interesting dynamics in the golf business which mean that for brand new clubs the mid price market segment is really tough.

There are many perspectives on this.

£180 for a new Vokey wedge sounds ridiculous. But then many people will spend that on a single round of golf. £180 won't buy you a round of golf on a top 100 course in 2026 either, most will be £200+ this summer.

There are people who enjoy golf just as much with a bag of clubs worth £180 in total, playing muni courses where they can get 10 rounds for £180.

Personally, my view is that it's worth spending money to get the right equipment that works for you, and then that equipment has a shelf life. That shelf life could be 2 years or 20 years depending on the product and technology.

Quick scan and I can see new SM10's available for £140 and new SM9's for £100. I'd be interested to know about the giant leap in technology from SM9's to SM10's to SM11's.

Wait, you haven't heard the news then: the SM11 features the new Agentic AI designed hypermilled spinvortex technology with nano pigmented hyper-alloy shielding finish and exponential weight differentation on the perimeter equilibrium, leading to greater spin control and feel optimisation throughout the entire range of loft, lie and bounce options. Duh..

Oh and you can still have your (nick)name or random witticisms stamped on your wedges of course.

I went from Cleveland 588 rtx - Vokey SM6 to SM8, then to Taylormade Milled Grind 3's, which I liked a lot, but now I play Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth, which is going a bit backward,s but I love them more than the MG3's both in looks and performance. I have a gorgeous limited edition white N.S. PRO MODUS3 Wedge 115 shaft in my 58, feels great.
