OK, got back from a very wet episode at Cooden Beach and put everything on the line that didn't need washing as its only rain after-all and all my waterproofs (Sunderland Jacket & Benross trousers) are dry & fresh, my Galving Green Windstopper & Ned trousers are also dry & fresh to the nose, even my Mizuno trolley towel is OK, BUT, my MacWet gloves absolutely stink :eek:

They've only been exposed to the same rain and put on the line to air the same as everything else so why are they so stale and stinking :confused:

How do you wash or clean your MacWets, can they go in the wash or are they of a particular material they can't or is it a case they can but don't use a softner like waterproofs or....:mmm:

I'm thinking just under the tap whilst wearing them in fresh clean running water but is the stale smell due to them drying slowly and if so, can I put them in the tumble drier?

Do you wash certain items in a particular way as traditional washing/cleaning/drying doesn't work, and if so, what and how?

I just bung my MacWets in the washer with my other stuff. Infact I had to wash mine after the deluge we played in on Friday. I don't use bio powder and softners anyway. Wouldn't tumble dry them though.

In the wash they've gone then, with no sofetner just in case, although I don't think MacWets have any protective qualities as they work better when wet!

Do you just wash Galvin Greens as normal or do you need to wash separately?

I've only just got my Galvin Greens but I've always been under the impression not to use softeners like Comfort as it harms or removes the protective layering in/on waterproof clothing. I know you can get stuff to put it back on but I'll air on the side of caution and not use a softener, not sure about certain powders though?

Mac wets are notorious for getting whiffy. Bung them in the machine.

Waterproofs should be washed with a liquid soap solution or specialist cleaner.
Not detergent or softener.
Gentle tumble drying will improved their waterproofness

Can you give an example please.

A wee tip for whiffy gloves is to give the inside a little scoot of Scholl shoe spray (the stuff that stops them ponging).

Fabric softener blocks the micropores of any breathable material including GoreTex, hence the reason not to use.

Tumble drying re-activates the DWR of GoreTex, the beading effect you will see on the jacket/trousers

From the Macwet site....

<Cut/Paste>

How do I wash them - Can they be tumble dried – Are they machine washable?

MacWets are easily washable:

• Wash them up to 40 degrees C with a mild detergent, spin briefly in the gentle cycle, hang up wet and pull the seams straight.
• Do not use bleach.
• They cannot be dried in the dryer.
• When dry, brush out gently with a soft, fluff-removing brush.

</Cut/Paste>

If in doubt..RTFM!

Interesting. Had my Macwets on today and while I didn't notice a particular pong I've just gone back to see if they are drying and gave them a sniff and there is a whiff. Stuck them in the machine now. Think HID thinks I've lost the plot (again)

Hope you've put them in with other washing!

I've just done my goretex waterproofs and oddly mine say use a non bio powder which is not what the goretex site says.
