Washing machine recommendations

Just checked our water online, it’s moderately soft whatever that means.
Up here, we don't need to worry about the water. It won't damage the machine. It's proper northern water, no filters or tablets required

Unless you are hammering the machine, go middle of the road. We are on a Beko one, 5 yrs and going strong. Miele, Bosch, Samsung etc will be better machines but are they worth the extra if you are not pushing them to the extremes? I liken them to tyres. Do you need Continentals or Michelins if you are doing low miles and not at high speeds?

Now, do I venture into that rabbit hole that is what I know…… fock it….
Miele, all day long is best.BUT it has to be one of the stainless outer drums, not the plastic drum versions they have followed everyone else into.
There is 1 model that is mid range I know is stainless outer drum, and when I need a Miele washer for work, that is the one I use.
Siemens and Bosch, both good, both basically the same machines just differing colours features but SIemens is being pushed up the scale to compete more with Miele.
Bosch come with a 5 yr warranty I think now, that uses their own field service engineers.
Beko is a good budget brand, but Blomberg has better features (it is part of Beko) and the warranty for Blomberg is 3 yrs on freestanding I believe. The target market for Blomberg, is primarily Bosch in Germany and they are doing a good job.
I always advise to put the detergent straight into the drum with the clothes as no one does pre washes now. Only the fabric softener goes into the drawer in its compartment.
Calgon is just tabletised Soda crystals, just compressed and whitened and a lot more money.
In the old days a quality powder detergent is all you needed, but since powder is almost dead and everything has gone liquid it’s a quandary as liquid detergents don’t dissolve as well in hard waters as powder and couple that with the world being mad and trying to wash everything at 30degrees gives you machines that don’t rinse properly, aren’t clean inside or sterile. If you want to buy into the advertising gumpf, then go ahead.
BTW there’s a new driver that can drive the ball 500 yds every time and I will sell you it for £700 with no guarantee.
The only exception to the mass market liquid detergents in hard water issue, is the Miele liquid detergent used in their Twindos machines.

Now I’m getting out that rabbit hole.
