Just been chatting to a colleague about my recent crap scoring and I mentioned I've not been warming up like I normally do which got me thinking, and him saying no wonder I've struggled...

I always try and hit half a basket before a round as a loosener and will spend some time on the putting green too, especially on short putts. Playing straight after work recently has meant I have been going out with just a few practice swings due to lack of time, and I suspect this hasn't helped my scoring.

So, before a round, what do you do as a warm up and how do you think it would affect your game if you went straight out onto the tee? Are you someone who is happy to rock up and head for the tee, or like me, do you like to hit a few balls / putts first?

I normally do a few leg stretches, torso twists, swing my arms over and over and then do a few clubs in hand (3) do some practice swings. Then hit a bucket of balls (50).

I don’t know why I do this tbh, because I never get going until after the 9th hole haha.

Weighted swings (usually with a 6 and 7 iron in hand) for a couple of minutes both "normal" and Jimenez Baseball style.

Followed by some flexibility stretching.

Whenever I warm up on the range first, I play like (more of) a knob. So it's a waste of money!

Might get in a few cheeky putts on the putting green too.

Stretch the calf muscles, 'strings, torso and shoulders then a few swings with two clubs. I think try and warm the wrists up (stop sniggering at the back ;) ) and then spend ten minutes putting.

Then I'm ready to hook my first one into the car park :)

I now need to develop a whole new warm up routine. My old one used to involve smoking several Marlboro Lights whilst drinking a coffee then up to the tee.

Normally start off with a few gentle streches. On to the range to work on my ball striking with my wedges, gradually working my way to the longer clubs. Maybe 15 minutes on the practie green before moving to the first tee.

Just lately though I've been working on my alignment (using tour sticks) and have to say I have noticed a difference.

I remember that I forgot my clubs, I run home and get them by the time I get back to the tee I collapse and I am ready to rock ;)

I usually start with a few stretches, to loosen up the arms, legs, wrists, torso, and most definitely back and neck.

The small swings with 2 clubs(6/7 iron) building up to full swings with headcovers still on them.

Then I hit 3 full, 3 half with SW, 9i, 7i, 5i, 3h, 3W. (I dont have a driver)I just concentrate on tempo, and solid contact, no power.

Followed by 5 chips with SW, 9i, 7i to different flags on chipping green, then about 10 minutes on practices green to get pace and line for the day.

I finish with a few swings with 2 clubs to stretch again, then hit a few tee shots thinking of the 1st shot of the day taking into account wind, etc...

It usually takes about 40 minutes to go through everything, then spoil it all by playing crap :D :D :p

I always get there early. Few stretches, few wedges to get the swing working and then a few shots going through the bag and finishin with the driver. Off to hit a few chips and bunker shots, back into the locker room to make sure I Have tees pencils etc, get my card, log into PSI and visit the facilities. Finish off with some putting, meet my partners and carve it OB off the 1st

I normally just get straight on the tee, with maybe a bit of putting if I turn up early enough.

Today I had a late (ish) tee time so went on the range first and was garbage for most of the front 9. Never again!

I tend to loosen up with gentle turning exercises and few balls in the net. I don't need to know where they've gone, as long as I'm not topping or shan>>>>.
Always a dozen chips, a few quick bunker shots and then 2 lots of "9" with ONE ball on the putting green.
I rarely play without having hit balls for proper the day before even if just a 45 bucket.
