Walcott Out for 6 months,

Wouldn't be anywhere near my England team. Like too many wingers of that ilk, fail too often with end ball when it counts. Sure, he's been scoring goals but he should have had a load more. Both crosses and finishing nowhere near world-class for me.

It's a bit of a sign of how the academies worked when I was a teenager (I'm similar age to the players I'm about to mention). All emphasis was on pace, and there's an ethos of 'we can teach you how to play football, we can't make you quick if you're not naturally'.

For me players like:

Walcott
Sterling
Zaha
Ince
Lallana (although I like him more)
Lennon
Young
and even Glen Johnson, who is a failed winger

Are all missing the 'end product' the likes of which people like Becks, Giggs, McMannaman, Anderton (when not injured) all had. The difference in class is when you get someone with the young lads' pace and some end product like Bale / Ronaldo which, unfortunately we've not had in the 20 years I've been following England.

Out of those you list the one I've enjoyed watching most this season for Club and country has been Lallana. Perhaps he's still fresh to the mainstream footy fan but he didn't half play well for England.

It's a shame for Arsenal - don't like seeing players getting serious injuries

Hopefully England won't call up Sterling as a replacement

Why would they?
As jimbob.someroo has pointed out, there are a few youngsters waiting in the wings, all of which are probably ahead of Sterling in the pecking order, except Walcott obviously.

Slime.

I would agree with that, maybe i'm biased as a saints fan. But he goes past players with skill and most certainly isn't just a speed merchant. I also think that its too early to write off zaha and ince.

Re Walcott, i think he was picked far too ealry. But over last 18 months i would imagine he has better goals/assist than most english wingers.

Because currently he is one of the form players in the Prem

Has more pace than all the others ( more than Walcott as well ) and is adding an end product to that pace.

Id like to see that race, think it would be tight. 3 goals and 3 assists so far is better than Townsend but not Walcott all with is liar game time. Personally I'd not start any of them. Good super subs but it's been shown time and again, technique is ruling the roost now. I'd have lallana Barkley and Wilshere behind Rooney. Gerard add carrick behind them.

I think it's a serious loss to England and could jeopardise our chances of just scraping out of the group stages.
