Applied to join a club, got the application form sent to me very promptly and I sent it back the same day. Just wanted people's opinions how long to wait between applying and being invited for an interview etc?

I received an email notifying me my application had been received on the 21st March and they replied on the 12th April saying the nominations chairman was on holiday but I've heard nothing since. Am I just being too impatient because I really want to join a club?

I don't think you're being impatient Akie, I think the club in question needs a kick up the backside. It's finally that time of the year when club Golfers attempt to get their money's worth by getting out as often as they can. Id be getting impatient too!

I was under the impression that most clubs at the moment can't do enough to get new members onboard. Due to the amount of clubs around Manchester I would of though most would of been in a similar position.

Where have you applied to Join?

If it's a private club the process can take a while. Your application will have to go on the notice board for either 2 or 4 weeks then if there are no objections it might have to go before the next committee meeting. Once all that has happened they will contact you.

Or maybe you've been blackballed?

Blackley as the annual subs are reasonable and its close to me.

Don't know anyone at my new club so be surprised if I'm blackballed wondered mind knowing either way so I can look elsewhere

Should have joined Ellesmere, you would have been playing by now.

I have played Blackley a couple of times, not my favourite course, but only played it when it has been pouring down? holes 2 to 7 are decent though. Playing there in an interclub competition next week.

The cost difference was a big factor really in terms of membership.

I signed the form, paid and was playing the same day? I would have thought in this economy all clubs were the same, but evidently some are still run by dinosaurs.

well... one club I asked for membership some member told me "you don't want to play here, join the other one" :O
the other one I left the form 2 weeks ago - no contact so far

both clubs it took me a month to finally find someone I can talk to ... and it always felt like I'm not welcome

....

maybe they saw me play ;)

Akie,Have you had a look at North Manchester GC? At £725 the Subs are slightly higher than Blackley but its a much better course. Theres also reduced rates if your under 30.
I think Stand is slightly more but its well known for draining well due to the sandy ground, The greens are always superb and it plays well through the Winter, I used to live close by and played it quite a lot.

Call them asap, you will have most likely missed the draws for all their internal matchplay comps, which at my club are made before the first medal. If that is the case ask for a fee reduction.

Cheers for the advice, keep hearing good things about Stand so want to try it out.
