Played my Volvo matchplay regional semi final tonight against a chap from Spean Bridge near Fort William. The match was played on my home course Nairn.
Angus was playing off 12 so thanks to a bad few rounds before my bad back I was happily playing off (9.6) 10.
Angus won the first hole with a parr after a rocket drive straight up the middle and mine was a low pull into the sh*te left.
We were both in fairway bunkers left on the 2nd hole I just about got out only to thin my 3rd into the ditch/ hazard across the fairway.
The opposition did the same so I hit my 2 hybrid left of the green and he then hit further left never to be seen again, all square.
A solid par on 3 which he is getting a stroke takes me one up.
Steady pars take me to 5 up at the turn but a fight back after I find the fairway bunker on 10 and 12 see it back to just 3. He’ is stroking on 13 which is stroke index 1 his bogey is enough to see the deficit further reduced. A pushed tee and me middle of the green on the 211 yard par 3 14 see’s me back to 2 up par on the short 15th and I’m back to 3.
Spanked drive down the middle for me and a push slice from Angus into the rough on the right. Angus hits first but can only find the ditch short on the 16th, while my 6 iron to 3 feet is enough for the match and a date in the final in Newburgh for the regional title.
