What a frustrating (read stupid) game this is

Over the last couple of months I've gone from ok, to very good, back to ok, then awesome, to mediocre, to the last couple of rounds I've had where I have absolutely no idea where the ball is going off the tee.

I say no idea, but that's a little bit untrue. It's either going bolt straight, gentle draw, straight push or huge slice!

I used to be a slicer years and years ago, and since I started playing again I've had the odd gentle one, but this is not the 'put you in the trees or rough' type slice, it's 'put another ball down before the last one has landed' type slice.

This isn't a 'cure my slice' request, because I know there are 1,000,001 different cures depending on what the problem is.
I'm just venting.

I've been trying to concentrate on clearing my hips rather than sliding them towards the target, so maybe now I've got used to the feeling of them clearing nice and early I'm still trying to move them out of the way even quicker and leaving my arms behind too much?

I'm not even going to try to cure it. Just swing as I've always thought I have, and wait for it to come good again, which it undoubtedly will before it goes back to poop.

I feel better now, truly I do.

Until the next time I play... maybe! :D

and its that which keeps you hooked. You can have the worst game ever, yet a blinding 18th hole will have you begging for another 9 holes. Dam sport!

Region, have you tried just having a few weeks out, then back to the course with no range time and swing without thinking. i find this approach normally cures any habbits im developing if im struggling to adentify them.

Assuming nothing else has chnged ie grip, swing path etc I would suggest giving yourself more time in the transition.
Dont rush it.
Dont snatch the hip turn before you've finished your backswing.
This will prevent your body getting ahead of your arms and carving it away right

Oddsocks - I know it's not quite 2 weeks, but my game last Saturday was my first for 12 days. Went away and didn't take the clubs. I missed it though.

Bob - Nothing has changed "as far as I know", but when you don't play or practise every day like the pro's it's very difficult to pick up where you left off, including remembering the feeling of what worked and what didn't.

I've just been to the range in my lunch break. Only took a 7 iron and driver. The 7 was great, every shot dead straight and with 5 yards either side of where I was aiming and within 10 yards (carry) of how far I'd expect to hit my normal ball.

Driver was awful. Either straight, very low and short, or high wide and not so handsome

On the straight ones I had the feeling of being cramped, even though I tried standing further away, standing taller, and checking my alignment and ball position.

The only good drives I hit was when I tried splitting my hands about an inch apart using a baseball grip. High, straight, and longer. :D

I did say I was just going to wait for it to come back instead of try to fix it, but if there's any clues in what I've said above my pairs partner would be very happy come Sunday afternoon if anyone has any good ideas :D

It's definitely the trilby mate! It's ruined Smiffy's game too....
and mine...... :( Gone from 7.0 to 8.5 in 2 months since starting a series of lessons!! Only now starting to feel as though it's coming back.

I'm back. Maybe.

Went to the range tonight to try a couple of things out and was hitting much better again.

I think (please bear with me, I do waffle :o ) that when you work on something new or different, for me at least it's all about feelings. I don't physically monitor what I'm doing with the club and my body, but rather just get the right feeling in what I'm doing differently.

My theory is... when you've done it for a while it then feels normal rather than different so you've not got the feeling any more. The you do whatever it was even more to get the feeling back and the wheels fall off because you're (I'm) overdoing it.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

The question is will it last to the comp tomorrow, or even my 2 matchplay matches on Sunday.

Know the feeling. Can't get a drive in play at the moment so its killing my game (3 wood not doing a job either) but put me on the practice ground or better still at the range and every one is flushed. Club champs tomorrow and so going in with an laid back attitiude and hope that the driver decides to behave. If not I'll be having Sunday off (2nd round)
