USA & Prices

I bought my Adams Super S driver online from the states. It was £200 everywhere here, complete total after shipping £115 then customs £35.

25% saving. Happy Odvan.

Morning All,

Just been having an email conversation with my old man who is on business in Virginia Beach asking if I want any gear picking up whilst he is over there! obviously I will take him up on it for stuff that can easily be got into the suitcase.

What I couldn't quite get my head round though was the prices, especially balls. A dozen Pro V1 are $47.99 and Srixon Z-Star $44.99. Also the guy in the shop he went to also is offering 2 TM Z spin wedges for $80:eek:

I know its all relative but they really are spoilt over there in comparison. I mean there are about 4 specialist Golf store in the one town!

Anyway... has anyone else plundered the good ol' US of A for stuff?? if so what did you get???

Generally prices in the USA at present aren't too favourable given the poor exchange rate. Factor in state taxes and you are not saving.

It's best to look at clothing which isn't available here, ot clubs ditto

I hear this a lot but don't get this, the rate was $2-£1 for a couple of years max and for the last 5 years has been where it is now or less, on the whole you'll find over the last 20 or so years the current level is the most common.

I think it was a bit longer than a couple of years but you're right, looking at this graph the 1.45-1.65 range is the most common:

There are still areas I think where there are bargains to be had, but they don't appear to include well-known golf brands. Which is a shame, because with other major brands (Levis jeans, for example) the savings can be huge. Oakley shades are a good 20% cheaper, I can vouch for that as I've just bought a pair last week in the US.

Although the exchange rate has moved since the BIL did this, there are still plenty of great deal to be done. I've just checked out the average price for some top end Mizzies and discovered that it works out at £500 when here are asking for £800 so a whopping £300 saving. KZG over there are still nearly half the price as over here for top forgings. My Miura CB1's are also a few hundred quid cheaper. High end equipmenty like Miura, Foutreen etc are charging around $100 per club and over here its £100 equivelant, so the differential is dollar to sterling which adds up for a full set.

Not all sets are like this though, there are many brands out in the US who's current irons are around the $1000 mark, go check places like Golf Galaxy or Edwin Watts websites.

Like I said there are bargains to be had but not many so it all depends on what you are looking for.
