Morning All,

Just been having an email conversation with my old man who is on business in Virginia Beach asking if I want any gear picking up whilst he is over there! obviously I will take him up on it for stuff that can easily be got into the suitcase.

What I couldn't quite get my head round though was the prices, especially balls. A dozen Pro V1 are $47.99 and Srixon Z-Star $44.99. Also the guy in the shop he went to also is offering 2 TM Z spin wedges for $80:eek:

I know its all relative but they really are spoilt over there in comparison. I mean there are about 4 specialist Golf store in the one town!

Anyway... has anyone else plundered the good ol' US of A for stuff?? if so what did you get???
 
Z stars are on offer over here at present @ £20.
Used to buy through Internet and pay postage was cheaper than buying over here on some things.
However now customs and excise have cotton on vat etc adds around 33% so makes it around the same price.
Handy if some is over there but still got to be careful bringing new stuff back as there are limits.
As regards price it's not only he kit check the prices of most things and they are cheaper in the US.
 
Do those US prices include tax? The display price is less than the actual price you pay. My past experience is there is very little difference now between US and UK prices. For example I can get a dozen 2013 ProV1s here for £32 as opposed to the £29.60 your pops can get them in the states (At current exchange rate)
 
Been going twice a year for 5 years and rarely see cheap offers for current models, prov price is good just now, bear in mind there will be tax to add to that price depending on what state you are in.

The only in date product I continuely see cheaper in the US is Oddessy putters.
 
With the current exchange rate there is a minimal saving if any at all on most of the stuff you buy here. Waste of time really may as well buy it here and save the bother of lugging it back with you
 
Good points regarding the taxes, will find out if those are with or without tax (5.3% in VA)

Even with +5.3% the pro V1's come in at around £31 and the z stars £29. I would be interested to know where the 2013 Z stars are on offer at £20??

I see that most of the new clubs though are pretty much like for like though with them being about £10 better per club so yeah when you factor in any hassle + import etc... probably not worth it.
 
I agree with the above, I went to a good few stores in myrtle beach in April, prices were pretty much the same as here, wasn't worth the hassle of lugging them home!
 
I did a bit of research a couple of years ago and proved to myself that I could buy high end equipment at half the price, by doing it in the states. At the time I was playing KZG and my brother in law was wanting to get some. I put him in touch with my club fitter but it was too far really ..... The BIL was due to holiday in Florida so I contacted a couple of KZG fitters over there and asked him if they could fit someone out within a couple of days. Long story short, I organised for the BIL to go to a club fitter on day2 of his holiday and get fitted and choose some bats. he would be able to collect them on day 4 and game them for the rest of the holiday taking them back in before he flew home to be checked out. He got a set of CBIII for less than half the UK price and loves them. He took a few crap irons in his bag and travel bag so that he could replace with the good set and not pay tax bringing them home ....
 
I saved £30 by buying my old RBZ 3 wood in Vegas. I had clubs with me so it just went in there with the rest so I avoided any tax.
 
I have Family in Chicago so go there quite often. Some time back there were two US Dollars to the Pound and dollar prices were what we paid pounds in the UK. Half price everything then, Golf Galaxy stores are good value.

Chicago, in the city?

Had the best meal of my life in the city, Chicago Cut Steakhouse, simply awesome.
 
I found a shop in san fransisco... Few of the clothes were ok, but clubs and balls were the same price, if not more... Pre owned Callaway website is good though, although you do have to pay tax.
 
I have been on RAF Lakenheath a few times, the pro shop there stocks a reasonable amount of equipment, last week i was looking at putters and saw a new scotty golo which was $299 and a nike method core wide blade model which was $139 i believe, so as others have said not much different. Also saw they had a bunch of scotty divot tools, the ones that used to come in the head cover for $12. I'll have to check out the golf balls next time and then become best mates with the pro.
