US name Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Brandt Snedeker and Steve Stricker as their wildcards for golf's Ryder Cup in Chicago later this month.

Thoughts?

I think Mr Love has the same idea as Mr Olzabal, Big hitter.

You could argue that Ricki Fowler has won this year and did really well at Celtic Manor, also Hunter Mahan had a couple of wins at the beginning of the year including the World Matchplay, but DJ has come into a little form and can really smack the ball.

Cant wait for this now, bring it on septics!

No real surprises. Davis Love stressed experience and current form and that is what he has picked.

Dufner is in the team.

1 Tiger Woods 6,014.184
2 Bubba Watson 5,815.054
3 Jason Dufner 5,697.302
4 Keegan Bradley 5,551.206
5 Webb Simpson 4,635.500
6 Zach Johnson 4,491.544
7 Matt Kuchar 4,448.942
8 Phil Mickelson 4,233.108

Personally, I'd of thought Duffner would have got in ahead of Dustbin?!?

Dufner is in already on merit?

The US face holders Europe near Chicago from 28-30 September.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson spearhead the American challenge, with Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar the other automatic qualifiers.

Harsh on Mahan I think. He peaked too soon I suppose in that his form was around the WGC matchplay. Fowler has been a bit cold of late, but I'd have liked him as a gritty matchplayer, as shown at the last Ryder Cup.

Snedeker? His meltdown at the Open didn't convince me he was a big time player.

Edit: Meant to say, that's a seriously strong US team, although ours ain't too shabby either!

obvious choices although he could have selected in-form Nick Watney or even Ricky Fowler over Jim Furyk. I know Ricky's has not played well recently but after his showings at Celtic Manor I'd have taken the gamble

Furyk a great pick for Europe imo, has a relatively poor RC record to date, not in the greatest of form and not going to be a course that suits him, personally wouldve gone for horses courses appraoch and had Watney instead, think Id have had Mahan over Snedeker too

I fancy USA strongly for this. 1 of the strongest teams they have had for a long while. Even the wildcard picks are top drawer.

Im sure I read somewhere not a single player in their side has more wins than losses in Ryder Cup matches to date. On paper their side always looks stronger, doesnt always work out that way though

Couldn't agree more, Mahan might have come a cropper against GMac last time round but you would think that would only spur him on this time. I'm never sure about Johson either, sure he's a big hitter but at times he looks like a big punk, I'd like to see someone like Serg school him.

Oh just put it on already!!!!

I think the US have a very strong team.....can't see anything but a home win i'm afraid. Also the influence of DL3 is going to be massive, I think he makes a top notch captain.

Think this is going to be one hell of a contest, played out in a cauldron of noise. Not surprised in the slightest that he left out Mahan (duffed chip), Fowler (young and may crack) and Watney (Major meltdowns). Call of Duty: Medinah Warfare!!!!!

Mahan: current WGC Matchplay champ
Fowler: superb Ryder Cup comeback in singles last time, first tour win this year.

I think they both would have more to offer than Furyk and Sneds.

I think they have an extremely strong team and look at the depth of the strength also.

My concern is if Europe are beaten the media might quote the playing conditions as a reason (whooping/hollering/alcohol fuelled/ strongly partisan etc etc)
