I know why he did it once- one driver had a draw bias so he could draw it more easily off of the tee and the other one was more neutral and his usual driver so he could fade it also. I think there may have been a variance in loft as well. Either way he did it to help him move the ball and negotiate his way around the trees etc that come into play off of the tee.

It aint that hard to draw and fade, surely a pro can do this if I can. ESPECIALLY the world number 2?

he has used the fti but I think he currently uses the FT-5 when putting his driver in play.

I just did a check of what is in his bag though and apparently he used a driver called the i-mix FT-5 at the colonial. I'm not sure if there is a difference or not between that and an ordinary FT-5.

I have found out what the imix bit is about, it is the technology where you can use interchangeable shafts and tune the club to different specs yourself using a simple wrench tool. Why Phil would need to do that when he could just go to the tour van and get it done properly I don't know but it proves the technology must work sufficiently.

This was discussed on here a while ago. I think its a bit silly actually, especially for a pro to do! O well.

I know it was discussed Tony, it was the taylormade version that was mainly spoken about. I actually like the idea for us amateurs who don't have access to a realm of different specs just by asking, but when he can go to the tour van and get a whole new driver set up I don't know why he would use this other than to serve as an advertising tool for callaway. It can't alter performance though or he wouldn't use it I'm sure.

It's not quite the same as that though Tony. It is not as if you are allowed to change the shaft mid round, it doesn't actually give pros any more benefits at all nor amateurs during a round it just gives the non-pros a slightly more tour pro customisable experience. It wouldn't actually be something that would reduce scores, it is just a marketing ploy to make money and a method of making custom fitting easier. A laser putter is something that would inevitably reduce scores so to ask how far golf will go like this is sort of unanswerable when thinking about giving golfers more specification options in comparison to giving them a tool that will take shots off their game. If you are thinking about technology in general though the potential for development is pretty unlimited although I am sure any overly radical ideas would be outlawed by the R&A. As for the actual laser putter idea itself it wouldn't surprise me that eventually something like this is made- a putter that reads the green for you.

lol, yea good idea. Just think if equipment does go this was we will have conforming and non conforming everything putters, hybrids, fairways and irons as well as drivers. How would people marshall that in competitions? Although I do think their are already regulations that prevent certain developments taking place particularly with iron grooves.
