Listening to Scottie's post round media circus (gawd as journalists they really do struggle to come up with pertinent/engaging questions, are they really that poor or might they be walking on eggshells because of where they are/fear of getting kicked out?)

Anyway, one decent question had Scottie revealing he hit 8Iron on all four par 3's ! Hang on a mo, the good ppl of this forum are always saying a 'good' course will have a mix of par 3's/diff lengths etc etc

How poor is Augusta when they're just hitting 8I all day :p
In the couple of minutes they have to chat to the player after the round, what great questions would you ask the players?

I don't think the interviews are designed to be as engaging as the Oprah Winfrey / Lance Armstrong one, or Prince Andrew's car crash. They are just a nice simple chat, generally giving an indication of the mood the player is in after the round. And they are probably interviewing a few dozen players after the round, so not sure it is easy to give completely unique interviews to every player, after every round after every competition they are at.

Hasn't he got a new clothing deal with some firm, Malbon ? Do you remember when Justin Rose did something similar a few years ago? Went with an American company that no one else knew. The shirts were terrible, completely wrong on staid old Justin, didn't last long.
It seems quite common that there is at least one golfer that tries to start a trend at a Major every year, by wearing something different. I guess the Masters is the prime event to do so, given we've been starved of a Major for a long time.

I sat through 24 mins for BDC and 17 mins for SS, of post round Q&A.

As GR would say... its just bland

I congratulate you for being able to sit through such lengthy periods of blandness :)

Were these interviews running in parallel to the Sky coverage of the golf? I thought you were talking about the short interviews they do from time to time, to act as a filler between the golf.

But again, if many of these golfers are being interviewed after every single round, in most competitions, I'm not sure how they can be original every time. At the end of the day, they are talking about a round of golf. I love the game, but it is pretty dull to talk about on most occasions (who enjoys listening to another member of their club talking about their round?). No doubt why the media, from all sides, loved it when LIV was created. Even if it meant they could express their disgust. It gave them something controversial to talk about. They are probably desperate for someone like Reed to kick his ball out of the rough, so they can ask him about that.

I actually quite like the Malbon tops and other gear but the trousers that Day has rolled out so far this year have been absolutely tragic 😂.

I enjoy the Masters but does anyone find some of the traditions, language around the tournament a bit cringe at this stage. Like calling spectators patrons, etc.

Also what are the thoughts on the caddies still wearing the boiler suits? Seen as a tradition but a bit of a throwback to the era of a caddy being treated like dirt in that part of the world, almost slave like.

Yeah I agree, but if there’s only activity for 2-3 decent Q’s then ask them & let them the hell outa there. Don’t keep the players stuck there for 20-30 minutes. They must be bored out their gourds with the drivel being asked, no wonder many sports stars seem dead in front of the camera

Maybe a few too many journos on a Augusta jolly trying to justify being there, so they have to ask something. they really don't, just munch down on your cheese sarnies fellas and let the poor player pop off to the bar 😋

From what I've seen and read - the caddies love the boiler suits, its the pinnacle of their career to wear one

I guess so. It is probably a better format than a player having to do individual interviews with multiple media outlets after their round. Just get them all in one big room, and give the journalists a question or 2 each. If they only allowed one or 2 people to ask the questions, the rest of the media would kick off because their journalist might argue they have a different question and was unable to answer. But, most of the time, they probably struggle to think of a different question, and are so just asking something for the sake of it.

The lesser media outlets probably need a different style of journalist, who can very much think on their feet and ask questions outside the box. Given that they will only get a chance to ask a question near the end, after all the standard ones have been asked. The journalist equivalent to Karl Pilkington or Alan Partridge

I like it. it's those little things that all add up to help the Masters feel original.

I'm not sure wearing boiler suits is a symbol of slavery. If that was the case, forget what they are wearing at all. Simply having caddies who have to carry another persons golf bag could be seen as a throwback to these people being treated like dirt and treated like slaves. I'd happily wear a jump suit and carry someone's clubs if it gave me the chance to earn a few hundred thousand pounds if my guy did well.

I thought there was some article last week where a few caddies were surveyed and they hated them, too hot and uncomfortable while trying to carry a tour bag around. If I can find it I'll link the article
