Upcoming live concerts.

Went to see Laufey in Manchester tonight as she’s squirrel jr no.1’s favourite artist.

I was deeply impressed. Absolutely phenomenal talent with emotional punch - she’s this generation’s Tori Amos. Despite having a great band, the strongest moments were just her and a piano holding 20000 people entranced.

Oh, and Jeff Goldblum turned up and did a jazz standard with her too.
She’s a pretty darned good cellist as well..👍

I have been to something a bit different tonight, a candlelight concert with a string quartet playing the music of Leonard Cohen. I was a bit unsure what to expect because LC's songs are more about the lyrics than the music, but it was in fact very good

Upcoming as in 5 minutes; I’m in the venue. 😀

Paul Draper (ex Mansun).

Love smaller gigs. Where I’m standing I could just about “help” the keyboard player.

Minor claim to fame alert.
I was in a band in the late 90s who were lucky enough to get a support slot for Mansun at the University of East Anglia.
The other support band were Gay Dad who had a minor chart hit later in the year, we split up about a month after the gig 🤦🤣

Tomorrow evening we’re off to the London O2 Arena for Josh Groben - not a singer I’d heard of but massive in the US. Cross between Andrea Bocelli and Michael Buble. Lad has got us artist/promotor guest tickets so we’ll be sitting just about as good as it can get…nice one son👍

He also got us tickets for Maximo Park in June…but we’re going to the theatre that night…pity.

Josh Groban last night in the O2...so very good.

With a 22 piece orchestra and 4 piece band the music was absolutely fabulous. Not a massive fan of the style where others such as Alfi Boe, Michael Buble and Russell Watson live - but boy he can deliver a tune quite fantastically. Plus his chat was very personal - made it quite intimate in the huge space of the O2 So though not a total convert to his music I can most certainly say I'd not switch him off.

Echo and the Bunnymen tomorrow at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh.
Was working in Skye in 1983 when they did a Highlands tour. I think I saw them in Portree village hall (not sure as a few bands toured the highlands these days and I saw some not others). But they def popped into the Broadford Hotel (where I was working) for a pint on the way to Portree - kinda surreal it was.
