Unwelcome playing parners

Perhaps - but maybe not. Worse things happen at sea..besides…I’d also be playing with at least one of my few club besties and I don’t get to do that every week. In fact i only occasionally get to play a full round with my club bestie - and that’s ok as we chat before and after however the draw pans out.

That's pretty impressive! 👍
I don't think I could pull that off. 🤷🏽
Hats off to you ! 👏👏👏

My Saturday Roll Up is my only regular weekly knock and the group is about 50 strong - usually 25-30 each week. I get on well or well enough with all, with only one or two I’d perhaps choose to avoid if given a choice even though I get on well enough with them…but I always accept the random draw.

And I accept that down in Surrey I may not be everyone’s cup of tea…some folks find argumentative Scots who speak their mind a right pain 🙄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥰

I have some social anxiety and used to go out of my way to play as a single. Not so much nowadays - ever since I have decided that I don't need to keep others in the flight entertained or supported. You do you, I'll do me. Polite and friendly but don't need to discuss life and golf and tell (or listen to) anecdotes. I am playing golf.

That's brought back a distant memory. Many years ago I was playing in an inter club friendly and one of the opponents was recounting a story, as one does. My partner eventually said "you are telling this story as if we are interested in it" 😲 I looked around for a rock to crawl under. Needless to say, that was the first and last time I played with that person (apart from the final of a summer KO comp when I stuffed them 5 and 4 - there was no way I was going to lose that match(y))

To be clear, I am not advocating for rudeness. For me it's just about doing my own thing, being pleasant enough but not feeling the necessity to entertain others.

One of our ‘squad’ is ‘renowned’ for his telling of shaggy dog stories on the course - and more than once I’ve been with him when he’s been asked to finish his story after we’ve played, or just as commonly after he’s played.
