UEFA how low can they sink.

Seen nowt from foreign players here donating anything....Oh only pep, who has jetted back to Spain and is donating 1 million euros of British money to Spanish attempts to fight the virus. Not our NHS. So think on that City fans and Sky subscribers and everyone who goes to watch foreign players in our top league. And people are whining over Weatherspoons. Give me strength!!!! No matte what. IF this is ever over we will just go back to what we were doing before it happened and idiots will defend to the hilt their teams actions.

What a scumbag, giving his hard earned to help other people.

It's no way near as bad as sacking 50,000 people and telling them to work in Tesco, or not paying suppliers. Us Brits have morals and integrity.

Pep is Spanish and therefore donating his money to his home country where his family, loved ones and heritage are there is absolutely nothing wrong with him doing that at all.

Mane plays for. Liverpool but has a charity that does loads for his home country in Senegal and last month made a large donation to his home country for Covid-19. Absolutely nothing wrong with anyone supporting their home nation in times of crisis.

Its their money to spend where they like, nothing british about it or would you like to get into an argument about people can only spend where they earn, absolutely pathetic..

Footballers may earn millions but nobody has a right to tell them how to or where to spend their money.

Sometimes you need to learn to engage your brain before touching the keyboard.

Totally agree with this he went back to Barcelona saw the plight of his Catalonia nation and wanted to help. The area is one of the worst hit in Spain. Lewandowski did the same which for me shows how many overpaid idiots in football could do the same thing.
we aren’t asking players to take wage cuts we are asking them to help the people at their clubs who look after them day in day out. Whether that is the cooks, tea lady’s, ground staff, IT, car park attendants or security. Spurs and Liverpool players could step in and pay for their staff being furloughed, reduce the negative publicity out the staff at rest an ease through what is a war against an invisible enemy. No one has asked them for a wage cut, just look after your own lads.

No, I’m sorry, I genuinely believe you are missing the point.

The EMPLOYER has furloughed the staff, it is not down to fellow EMPLOYEES to pick up the pieces.

5 PL Club (that we are aware of) Owners have decided to use the furlough scheme.

Relying on the government to pay 80% of your staffs wages is a disgrace when you are earning so much money

The scheme is for companies who are struggling with cash flow.

Plenty of Clubs and Players are stepping up and helping Local Communities, guaranteeing Staff Wages, even paying match day Volunteers the wage from cancelled games.

Nobody denies PL Footballers are over paid prima donnas, but on this specific issue the paying of fellow employees is not their responsibility.

It's not "British" money, it's his money. Paid to him by a Middle Eastern billionaire. Of course he will already have paid a massive amount of tax on it to HMRC, so that benefits the UK. But at the end of the day, it's up to him how he spends it, and I for one applaud his gesture.

I agree that it is the clubs themselves that Should step up but when a club like Tottenham and Liverpool furlough staff the players could easily step in. Anyone who is on £50k a week or more is in a privileged position, if the board make the wrong decision the players can step in.

Just reading up on my club and they are paying all the casual staff until the season starts again, this was released over a week ago.
Looking at the money Pep has donated (£920,000) it has gone to the main doctors association in Barcelona and they will be making 3D masks and respirators. Catalonia being the worst of the areas hit by the deadly virus.

Again the rich football clubs have their community schemes and their communities need them now more then ever. If the rich footballers have the money to help they should. I have myself donated to my local hospital, it’s not a lot but its something. If I was on £55k a week I would do a lot more whilst not leaving the house.

Why though? That simply allows the owners to behave how they like and make employees accountable!

The owners of some of these Clubs are worth billions, they could pay it out of their own pocket.

Using my Club, Everton, as an example, we have at least 2 Billionaires involved in the Club and quite a few multi-millionaires and what your saying it’s ok for them to furlough staff and make the players pick up the bill? Even though they as a board have more than the players!

Everton are paying their staff. What I am saying is that if they made an appalling decision like Tottenham and furloughed staff the players, who are mega rich, can help the staff out. Similar to Glen Johnson and his pals helping out the staff at his local golf club.
As a furloughed member of staff there is uncertainty which brings stress and anxiety In turn breeds mental health problems - something close to a lot of footballers at the moment.
I am not saying take a 30% pay cut I Am just saying put something back especially if you are on £55k a week. Or as Sala, Firminho and Van Dijk they picked up £1 million between them last week sat at home isolating.

My club took my last direct debit off me the other day. If they furlough anyone I will make a complaint.

Btw, Liverpool confirmed a week ago Casual Staff will still be paid too.

On your 2nd point, how much do you think they should give and for how long?

They should step in and pay the staff being furloughed and shame the club for as long as they are still getting paid.
On top of that they should all make a donation to their local Liverpool hospitals, similar to what I have done via Just Giving. I expect they can afford a lot more than I could.

But you’re focussing on the Players, Spurs could of announced the furlough and Levy could of stepped in and paid the Staff.

It’s not only the Players who have money in these Clubs.

All players at all Clubs do stuff in the Community all the time, at this particular time we all need to pull together, not single out 1 easy target.

Off topic, but has the UK’s richest Sportsman done? Mclaren has furloughed staff, were is the outrage about Hamilton, he’s said he intends to forego bonus’s to help McLaren, not to pay the staff though!

Sportsmen taking a pay cut does not mean Staff will come off furlough, It means Spurs etc pay less, but loses HMRC revenue and we the tax payer keep paying for those on furlough.

How do you know they havnt donated to their local hospitals? Just because it isn’t plastered all over ssn?

That’s twice you’ve said you’ve donated in the last 20 mins, which to me is 2 times more than is necessary

How can they step in & pay the staff?
The staff are still getting paid 100% of
Their wages.

I disagree.

Why should players pay staff when the club is own by 2 US billionaire hedgefund managers?

The decision to furlough staff is the wrong one but the players should not foot the bill, neither should us tax payers. That said, they’ve also paid massive amounts in corp tax etc so they’re “entitled” to claim but MORALLY it’s wrong.

Players already give time and money to charities, hospitals, hospice’s etc, it’s not Upto footballers to bail the NHS out.

You’re suggesting they should be paying staff and giving to charity, really?

Well done on making a donation though.

Only donated once not twice. Didn’t think it was a problem stating it as no one knows who I am. The main point is we can all do it.

Yes if they are as disgusted as Carragher in the club and want to promote football in a better light they can give whatever they want and as much as they want. Just like everyone else can.
The difference is that we know those people are paid millions and are like us sat at home doing nothing where as we are working from home.

If they don’t want to do their bit then fine but don’t expect sympathy or any good publicity.
I just think they should but it is a personal opinion that maybe no one else shares.
We are at war and the sooner we pull together the better.

Politics like football teams is out the window we win or lose together. I also believe other sectors businesses should be doing the same but the media coverage tends to focus on football.

Why though?

Because they get paid so much money, they don't know what to do with it and right now they are still getting paid 100% for doing nothing (average PL player gets £100,000 per week)

How do you know they havnt donated to their local hospitals? Just because it isn’t plastered all over ssn?

Because it isn't plastered all over the Sun

No good picking 2 words out Bob and ignoring the rest, otherwise it looks like your saying it’s OK for the Billionaire owners not to contribute so long as the Footballers do.
