I've just got back from the hospital to have my index finger dressed after I sliced the tip off on the mandolin while making dinner and it's our club championship first round next Sunday. I just hope it's healed enough not to be a problem by then.

So so droll!

It's similar to this....

Hope you removed the meat from the salad/cheese/whatever too!

Yeah I did then lost it so it couldn't be put back on!
Been told it might or might not grow back so I might have a flat finger from now on, not that that bothers me. The blood that poured out was unbelievable! When I changed the dressing the second time you could see it pumping out with my heart beat lol.

And you hope it will be healed enough in a week's time ? Can't see it TBH.

I did the same with my thumb years ago, in all honesty it did take while to heal. they managed to stick my bit back on, but still wave a weird shaped thumb now! i would say you are looking at 2 weeks ish.. you could strap it up nice and tight, cut the finger off a Washing up glove and play. just dont take the glove bit off until you finish!!!

Well I had the dressing changed today by the nurse and she said it's healing really well even though it still bled a little bit.
This dressing is staying on until Saturday morning and she thinks it will be fine to play with by the weekend. It might be a bit sore but she is doing the next dressing and she will make sure it's small enough not to bother me. I might have to take a painkiller or two while playing but that's about all.
I'm not going to miss this so she knows it's pointless telling me I can't play.

Good luck. Had my finger operated on 4.5 weeks ago for a flexor tendon infection and wound only just healing over now, hope to try a few swings tomorrow.

You should be fine in about 3 days, I tried to remove the tip of mine with some secateurs last week and it was fine after 3 days.

And what's with all this 'nurse' stuff?? you need to man up ;)

It was a gusher and I couldn't get it to stop. I normally just tape this kind of thing up and carry on but when it's squirting blood out of the bit that's missing I thought it was time to use some of my hard earned NI contributions.
I did the same about 20 years ago while working as a chef and it took about a week to heal, it wasn't as bad that time as I only went through the skin layers and it didn't pour blood out in a little pumping fountain.
