I've made up my mind that I need a new driver as I didn't feel that either of the two that I have was working properly. (r7 draw, regular - I think I now longer need the draw and it's too 'soft' and a G5 stiff that I think is too stiff though I'm straighter, usually.)

So I've been out after work twice this week (can just about get 9 in now) and the r7 has decided that it doesn't want to go and I've been splitting more fairways than not.

I haven't made a booking yet but had planned to visit the club fitter on Saturday, just to nose around. what to do?

I too use the r7 draw and sometimes feel I could get a bit more distance with something else. It's fine if hit off the sweet spot, but probably find it's my poor driving otherwise. I do find though, that I have to tee the ball quite low and think it's probably because of the higher loft.
Maybe something similar but with less loft would be worth a try.

Golfmmad.

golfmmad, distance isn't too bad, though we all want more don't we? dispersion is my biggest problem - me or the club?
I've been progressively teeing lower but can still get a high launch. However I remain to be convinced (an argument for a c/f?) than less loft is the answer, I've sort of convinced myself that it's the shaft that is wrong.

murph, the season is never over, and if I wait for xmas I'll just spend it on presents for other people. anyway, I'm just going for a look (says he!), can't hurt just to look (can it?), and I'd have a chance to get it grooved before Goswick.

Played my last evening game last night. It is getting too dark. Celebrated with the lads at a curry house afterwards.

Two medals to go, one of which doesn't count for zip. The course has been scarified. The hollow tining is pending. Another month and we will go to the winter course, with no comps til spring.

Seasons over, pretty much.

I think winter rules must come into play soon. I went on the putting green last night and it was too dark to pick the lines by 7.40

I think anyone looking for new kit would be better advised waiting until after Christmas. A lot of 2010 stuff will be previewed and available and there will be January sale bargains too. Of course we all know the lure of trying new sticks is way too hard to resist.

I had two qualifying games lined up this weekend. Alas babysitter is ill so Saturday is now off. That leaves an Open at my home club on Sunday and possibly 2 medals after that, that's my lot for this season. Having not played competitively since August 8th the golf season has just drifted away as has my game I expect. We'll see Sunday, have a bounce game Friday pm for some practice.
If Sunday goes badly I expect that'll be me for this year but if it goes well I'll be looking to get another card or 2 in.

Another long winter coming up fast.....oh no

Have roughly 3 comps left i can play in due to the shift pattern i work. Had a leeson first thing this morning but felt a tinge in my back but went in for the sweep anyway alas it was not to be i lasted 3 holes and have spent the rest of day lying on the floor doped up on pain killers the only thing is it seems to be easing up now.
This could be the mixture of Beer and Pain killers together after watching Scotland not having the best of luck against a Dutch side there for the taking.

"Dutch side there for the taking"

Stop drinking Steve, YOU'VE HAD ENOUGH!

Next you'll be telling me Kenny Miller is a decent player.

HaHa ,you've took that to far mate ,even i'd have scored that chance and i'm half cut with a back thats killing me :D

homer,
I'm not looking for off-the-shelf stuff so waiting may not apply.
Still, as I said, all of a sudden I'm crunching the driver, . . . but I don't have a 3-wood
