Two new tyres.

I'd like to see these facts... I really would. All you'll find is info on how tires will stay inflated at pressure and some crap about how corrisive air is inside a tyre.

F1 tires run hot, therefore need a gas inside that doesn't expand as much when heated.

The same brand tire inflated with air or nitrogen will act the same if the pressure in the air inflated tire is maintained. The air filled tire will lose pressure over time as oxygen escapes, but if the pressure is maintained there will be no difference.

For now I'll just say that I have used Nitrogen and noticed a difference.

A placebo effect maybe.

I have no wish to get into a fight about molecule size, the interaction between molecules and other matters on a golf forum.

I also have no idea how my flat-screen works but I know that when I push the button, pictures occur as if by magic...

Cheers

Steve...

£25 for two as new Michelin tyres fitted by a mate. FAB !!!!! He's got two more for me for the back which I'm having done in the New Year.

I'm willing to bet that you don't drive a formula 1 car, nor do you go anywhere near a track.

Top work, Poirot :D

Tyres are the bain of my life.

About 5 months ago, I was driving home from Tesco, pulling onto a roundabout (from stationary, so not very fast) when I heard a bang followed by a "clunk, clunk, clunk" sound.

I pulled over on a relief area which was there (luckily) and inspected the car. It was dark, but all looked in order except for the puncture on one of the rear tyres. "Great, that's 375 quid I could do without spending tomorrow" I thought, but nevertheless, popped the spare on, chucked the tyre in the boot until the next day.

Took it to the tyre place, told them I had a puncture, could they put a new un on the alloy wheel and I'll be on my way.

20 minutes later, he comes back and said "sorry, sir, I can't change it because the wheel has a hole in it". I replied with "Yea, I know, that's why I bought it in, I need a new tyre" - Not realising that he'd said "wheel". Once the penny dropped, he showed me the damage, which was a 2 inch hole in the INSIDE RIM of my alloy wheel caused by this:

a 4 inch long, half inch wide bolt which had somehow gone straight through my tyre and blown a hole IN MY ALLOY WHEEL! (pen used for scale :D)

The problem was, I was due to drive 3 hours north that evening and by this time it was about 3pm. Without the alloy, I had no spare.

Spent the next two hours frantically driving round Gloucester scrapyards and breakers trying to find a steel rim that would fit my car (not easy!) so I could get a new tyre fitted to it, to allow me to drive home that night.

Eventually found one, took it back to the tyre place and £250 later I had a new steel rim and 3 new tyres (two other tyres were on the edge of legal limit).

FML.

Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to the day I have to change my 18 inch low profile tyres on my Mondeo! Hopefully no bolts will get involved.

I use event mobile tyre fitting. The tyres are cheap enough, and they come to me and change them while I am at work. About £100 per corner for my r18 65 225. Falken I think, as the other makes are silly money.

Falken are a very good tire, the FK452 is as good as a Conti Contact sport. Although you dont see many 4x4's with falkens fitted. Nicely done!
