Trusted payment methods

I don't use Ebay and the like generally, but I'm selling a car on Gumtree. Besides cash, what would you trust before you let Johnny Stranger drive it away?

Bank transfer, it can be done in front of you and it'll be in your account pretty much instantly.

Just make sure its an instant bank transfer. On one of my accounts, i can make it a slower payment (2-3 days) and i can cancel that before it goes out (ie when i am ten minutes down the road with your car)

Cash only for me when selling cars, and english notes too. Once had a guy from Glasgow try to give me 6k in scottish twenties. I made him go to a bank to exchange for english notes.

If you bank transfer a large amount to a new payee then it may not be instant. The bankle will carry out a check first.
