Trump Courses

Unlikely scenario, because Trump is only interested in people who are prepared to pay megabucks to play his courses! :(

I have played Trump International three times now and have never paid more than £50 for a round, neither was as an introduced guest.

I have put a lot of consideration into my stance with playing Trump International and Turnberry. I have played neither yet but I will be.

On Aberdeen, I don't think the course should have been built. The way it came into being emphasised, for me, some of the more disgusting practices and principals that exist in the levels of elite political and corporate society. But it was done, the course exists now and it can't be undone. So being of curious and open mind, and the fact that by all accounts the course is easily amongst the best in the world, I now want to experience it for myself and see what the fuss was all about. Was the environmental and political cost worth it? In my view, the course is appealing because Martin Hawtree was given a clean slate and the capital to make the best he could and that's a very interesting proposition.

I am very much of a mind that you "Don't knock 'til you've tried it" and that's how I'll be comfortable to play it despite my dislike of Trump as a person.

Trump is a prize idiot, but I wouldn't be able to play golf at all if I abstained entirely against people like him and his attitude. He's just the same loudmouth twonk that you find in every golf club up and down the land and on every continent.

Well, I think there are a lot of issues. If any of you have a private pension or a stocks/shares investment, then you almost certainly are investing in some stuff Trump is also in. It is rather silly to suggest that people who object to the weirdly coiffed buffoon should boycott Facebook, P&G and so on.

But if I was organising a big event for which Turnberry was one of the options, I would think twice and probably wouldn't go there.

As for his golf, it is a mixed bag. Trump Aberdeen is well enough reviewed by people who know what they are talking about to be accepted as a current great course. Likewise the changes at Turnberry are generally accepted as likely to improve the course. Doonbeg is also a fine links.

On the other hand, some of his other courses are less great. Doral Blue Monster is widely regarded as a mediocre slog with a few infamous holes and lots of drudge in between, sort of like a Belfry with good weather, palm trees and fewer Brummies. Trump National LA is an 18 hole course squeezed into a space big enough for a good 12 hole course. Trump reckons it is better than Pebble Beach, but it is an exercise in extreme polishing of a turd. I did sit beside Mark Wahlberg at the halfway hut when I played there, though. He is really quite short.

I don't think Trump is good for golf. He is essentially a predatory businessman and his image and values are not what I would like to see in golf. He is also the guy who said that Pinehurst (when Kaymer won the US Open) was the worst golf course he ever saw. He likes green golf courses with white sand and blue water. He had better leave the design and refurb of his courses to people who have a better sense of what they are doing.

Just to be crystal what I was trying to get at with my comments was responding to the original fella who said he didn't want to put another penny in old Trump's pocket. I was trying to say that if that is his intention he will probably have to do a lot more than boycott a couple of golf courses

I understand where the OP is coming from. But I'm a lover of golf, not politics and the course looks beyond outstanding. To have the chance to play there with 60+ likeminded folk off here is to good to pass up. Life's too short to deny yourself great opportunities based on ideology.

Although, I am looking forward to locking horns with Carnoustie more and seeing if it's as brutal as some suggest.

I think the guy is a 5 star clown but if I refuse to pay 1 green fee to play his course I doubt he will lose any sleep so I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.

I'm with Robobum, I'll buy my Mars bar at the Co-op down the road ;)

I've been lucky enough to play Turnberry 3 times before Trump bought the place. It's probably my favourite place to play golf ever and him having the keys for the place now won't stop me going back in the future.

There as a lot of people to think about, all those employed at those courses.

I don't think I will be visiting any though, none I really want to play anyway.

Too slow Birchy, but in true Trump fashion I'll sell you one of mine😃

Drove past Turnberry a couple of days ago and there is a hell of a lot of work happening at the Ailsa course, clubhouse and hotel.
Trump is certainly investing mega long term bucks into the place.
I have quite a few friends in the area who are either members or staff. Not one has a bad word to say about Trump's actions at Turnberry.
