Possibly this opinion, which for me has been something of an elephant in the room now for some time, is a bit contentious with some, for which I apologise and cast no aspersions, as I know there are many on here looking forward to playing his courses, and in particular I know there's a big forum event lined up for later in the year organised quite some time back, but for me I will never play a course he's associated with purely on principle.

It saddens me that he's now got Turnberry in his stable and I'm afraid his boorish crassness offends me too much to be prepared to give him even so much as one penny of my hard earned dosh.

I'm not a fan of his but after a bit of thought I decided not to deny myself the chance of playing a great course just because of the owner.

If I was going to take that attitude I'd have to boycott plenty of great courses, not just trump's.

what's your view on golfing in Dubai?

How about muirfield? Would you turn down the chance of a round there?

Not sure what you mean about Muirfield other than the ban on ladies (although I thought they'd bottled it for fear of losing the Open but I may be wrong). However if it is that and they still cling on to their pathetic arcane stupidity, then I would have no hesitation in swerving a free round there too as it's nonsense in the modern age (as indeed it was too in the dark ages) and it's stupidity such as this which gives our sport a bad reputation within the perception of the wider general public.

But my post is really in relation to Trump and my intense dislike of the bloke, his views and his odious modus operandi in general.

I stress though, that this is simply my own view and I would not seek to castigate those who chose to view it differently.

Lets face it, if he owned Augusta, and you could get on for £50, 99.9% of golfers, would lose the fight with their conscience.

At the risk of sounding sanctimonious I'd be among the .1 who wouldn't. Although your point is well made and I agree that it is probably correct.

Unlikely scenario, because Trump is only interested in people who are prepared to pay megabucks to play his courses! :(

It's an extremely unlikely scenario, but it is to show how peoples "principles" can change, when carrots are dangled.

Maybe some people just want to play what is reputed to be one of the top 5-10 golf courses in the UK. My politics are as far removed from Trump's, as possible, but I can differentiate between my golf ambitions and some divvy's politics.

When you buy your coffee, use a bank, put fuel in your car and suchlike - do you check out where all your money goes back to? More for the OP than yourself, as I know that you and him are bed-buddies.

Can we keep all the bed wetting to one thread please?

We've had this nonsense already.

When? I fear it may have been before my time on here or else I missed it.

Sadly we have not all been on these forums since before the dawn of time and consequently there is the distinct possibility that topics might be repeated.

When I see such occurrences (as indeed I do quite frequently) and feel I have already contributed to the subject in hand as much I would like to previously, then I simply abstain from becoming involved in what I perceive to be the new, in my view, duplicated topic.

Erm... If you say so. Although I doubt very much if you know so much as the first thing about me because as as far as I know you and I have never been introduced or indeed corresponded in any way.

Firstly, the Trump thread was in the last few weeks.

Secondly, the bed-buddies comment was for Del, if you read it properly, as some of his views are close to Trumps. Just in case you ever want to play a course that DElC may own in the future.

Firstly, sadly I appear to have missed it, it seems. Still I can't pick up every thread on here.

Secondly, the comment was somewhat ambiguous as it was prefaced with "more for the OP than yourself" and as I am the OP in this instance then I naturally assumed it was in fact intended to include me.

Blimmin words, eh? ;)

are you boycotting every product/service that Trump could be earning money from you

The only ones that I know of that could affect me directly are his golf interests, so on that basis then yes I am.

Does he have other wider interests here in UK? As I honestly don't know.

He is also a shareholder of Facebook, Proctor and Gamble , Johnson & Johnson and I'm sure a host of other multinationals

All a bit peripheral in the life of an old git like me who never washes, lives in abject squalor and doesn't go a bundle on Facetube.😄

Everyone is free to do as they wish, but I wouldn't see that playing a Trump course would indicate support for his views or opinions.
