Had my first comp of the year - a Stableford thank God!!

The Greenkeepers carried out planned maintainence last week and had heavily sanded the greens and added plenty of water. Unfortunately, with the tropical weather, it's not been enough and the Greens have started to dry out. The ridges caued by the maintainence are actually getting bigger and not smoothing out at all.
As a result, today was a complete lottery. No idea what other scores came in but I struggled to 29 and Fragger to 27. The state of the greens cost me at least 6-7 shots, maybe more.
I know its the same for everyone in the comp but when you have a 6 foot putt that has no break and for 5ft 8 inches is going in, it then hits a ridge and shifts a foot to the right then something's not right. It was like putting on a corrugated iron roof!!!
Looks like I'm not able to play for another week or 2 so I hope they've sorted the greens by then.....

You should have come to Redlibbets. You'd have been right at home.

Got to be done, but why schedule a comp that week? My course does the same. It's just daft.

I feel the pain...

We still havent had water on the greens since it last rained!!! They are like baked mud, patchy and you can't hold a thing on them they are that dry.

Wouldnt have minded but renewed my council season ticket the other week and no signs of the water sprinklers been turned on til rthe end of May!! May email the golf manager and request a refund.

surely if it was like putting on a corrugated roof the ball would have stayed in the groves and gone in :D :D :D :D :D

Same at ours, understand that it is necessary but why schedules a medal for the week after they've been spiked, my putts were bouncing all over the f*cking place (needless to say the odd missed 3 footer impacted on the rest of my game).

Yeah but not one of the grooves led to the cup!!

had that last week, played twilight golf at a local which had just been cored and was exceptionally long for this time of year, hitting 75% of GIR but only two putting half at best... was a bitch.

Our greens are well known for being very good but they worked on them a couple of weeks ago and they are still pretty poor. Reckon with this weather and abit of rain they will come good though in a week or two.

What, you mean where I shot 35 and 39 points, Murph? Those greens were difficult, I agree... imagine how many I'd have scored on proper ones! ;)

Have to agree though - necessary evil, but why just before the qualifying comps!

If you putted down the line of the ridges the ball wavered left and/or right 3-4 times per yard and putting across them was impossible to judge - one my putts leapt a full 8 inches into the air halfway to the cup.

I only pay £580 a year and my greens are fast and true already ,sprinllers were on last week ,course looking and playing superb considering they were under 3ft of snow for 8 weeks. :)

Well I only pay €480 and they greens are superb :D

Ours are starting to come on now. OK they still look a mess visually but the drier weather has added a touch of speed and they are holding their lines much better. That'll be 3 putt city for me this weekend no doubt
