Treated myself to a winter matt

Yeah I struggle for that reason.... gotta 'sweep' it off rather than hit down..... helps if you pin down the mat with a fairly long tee, I've found.
I use one of these......

We use this one as well.

Generally turn it over and use the 'smooth' side unless wanting to hit a really spinny chip or pitch.

So could you experiment and use anything you wanted?
Might be able to dial the spin down with say old carpet door mat etc.

Starting to sound like we need to be fitted for a low spin mat.
Theoretically yes, but spin is related to angle of attack

As SavingPar says.... use the reverse, smooth side for low spin & grassy side for back spin..... even i can get 2 or 3ft of it.
Tried the DivotEnd one last year but couldn't get on with it though used by many due to it being very compact.

Not just aoa or it would be the same of all surfaces.
The mat must bring the ball more in the middle of the grooves as it must be higher of the ground, depending on the thickness of the mat.
Might get myself one and have a practice in the week.

Can you open the face on them with a decent bounce say 12 * without thinning it.

Yes, I have found it to be like an awesome fairway, I just need to work out ball position and head alignment, types of shot, like I would on a normal course. It’s just our fairways are pretty poor due to the dry summer last year and over cutting.
Playing flops off this is easier than off the course.

No need to worry about it where I play we never have to use fairway mats or lift and place in the first cut it is only on the range where I encounter the problem and the two tees that have artificial grass actually have a different type compared to that.

So we are well into winter and I have now got to version 3 of the mat!
Round 2 was given to me by a friend which was like a piece of carpet and pegged down, it was easier to get a connection on the previous met allowed the ball to ride to far up the face.
Round 3 is the spurk strike mat, all the handy golfers were using them and they seemed a less of a phaff .. so I ordered one and yes this is the answer chuck it down tread on it and it stabilises as the spurks dig in and then just place ball and hit..
you can google it for images it cost about £25 but I think I will see some seasons out of it ... I do feel like a cheat though as it is easier to hit off.

You need to be custom fitted as the pile is determined by whether your swing path is across or behind.

Does it raise the ball up much.
Do you go down the shaft a bit to compensate?
I would imagine if so your yardages would suffer a tad !
Does look good though.

Some were talking about coming down the shaft but when you push down the height difference is about 1cm higher when on the level ..
No yardage impacts, hit a couple of fairway woods .. was tempted to use it off the tee when I was using my fairway wood because of the strike quality.
It doesn't move when you strike it either .. I think it's probably the best option on the market
