Hi I went to the range. Had a good warm up then set the practice setting and hit a basket of ball’s with my 7iron. I do this about once a month and managed to get the accuracy percentage to 72% which is my best so far. This was for 90 balls.
Anyone else do this?
I find it difficult to concentrate for this period but it shows I have improved of late.

Is that not incredibly dull to do? I went to the range on Monday and went through the bag, average 5 shots per club before moving on to the next one. If I hit 5 bad ones I keep going until I hit 2 good ones but otherwise I mix it up.

After all you won't be hitting 7 iron only out on the course 🤷🏻

No expert but I would have thought that 90 balls with one club is not the best way to practice.
100%! One of the main benefits of Trackman is that it has plenty of games and activities for you to mix up your practice and keep it interesting and relevant. Personally, after a 10-ball warm-up, I'm usually playing a virtual course so I'm constantly changing clubs and every shot has a purpose and intention.

The only benefit of hitting a 7 iron 90 times would be if you're making a significant swing change and trying to bed it in I would think.

When I do go to a range, it's a max of 30 balls including warm up and cool down.
It's too easy to ingrain bad things when just stood there hitting ball after ball without the walk between shots to free the body up.

Personally I don’t like the virtual courses that much though I do play them if we have a few friends there.
I have been working on my swing and the fact that my accuracy % is higher shows that the work is paying off.
Using a 7 iron is what a pro told me to do when I’m working on my swing.
I don’t always do that, just do this once a month and don’t normally don’t have 90 balls as I’m too tight 😂😂

I’m not practicing I’m testing myself to get the highest % with a basket of balls. Using the 7 iron solely means I’m getting the best accurate feedback.
I’m using the practice facility on the trackman for my benefit. Not just aimlessly bashing balls out.

Yeah that's fine, as I said, it makes sense to hit lots of reps if you're making changes. (y) I couldn't just go and hit one club regularly though, I'd be bored :poop:-less. The Trackman virtual course has been revolutionary for me in keeping my interest levels high in actually wanting to practice weekly.

I sometimes use a random number generator on my phone to choose numbers between 90 and 210 and then obviously choose a clubs to hit those carry numbers. If I’m within 10 yards it’s a tick otherwise it’s a cross. It’s probably a better test of ball striking.

I would much rather do this sort of practise than just hitting one club. Might try it next time I go to the range.

Shouldn't have to do that, Trackman has it built in (well a Trackman 4, not sure about the range one). I often play a practice session that I'll set between 50-120 yards and it will give you random distances with random pin positions on different shaped greens. It will also give you a Strokes Gained score for each shot and you can compare it to different handicaps. You can set the distances to whatever you want.

Trackman 4 also has a combine game which asks you to hit 3 shots from 60,70,80,90,100,120,140,160,180 and driver. You do 2 sets of these and it gives you a score out of 100 and an estimated handicap based on the results.

I never really bother with these at my Trackman range. Given the variable quality of the balls, I'm never sure if I'm going to spend time practicing all my approach shots and then hit everything 5 yards through the back when I'm out on the course with my normal balls.

The Trackman should have been set up to normalise this, it should know that you are hitting crap balls but it will give you the output like you are hitting decent balls. When I used to go to the range near my office I used my range finder to get the distances to the boards and they had been set to take into account the distance limited range balls. Like the 80 yard board was actually just under 70 yards if I remember right. Haven't been to that range since before covid though.

Well, I don't think it's the case as when I'm in practice/range mode every club is a good 10-15 yards less than I would expect to see on the golf course. You do hit uphill there too, not sure if that makes any difference or whether it just reads the initial flight and estimates the rest. There is a 'convert' toggle button as well in the phone but this seemingly only makes a difference of 5 yards which obviously isn't enough.

In the Trackman app on my phone you can set 'altitude' to like 1000 or 2000 feet and that would add distance to the shots, but when I tried it it only seemed to affect the virtual course playing mode - in practice/range mode it made no difference.
