Trackman lesson...worth it?

Going to get a lesson in the next few days as my ball striking is very inconsistent and poor. Normally I'd go for either a bog standard lesson or a video type lesson in the past but they've just had track an installed and an hour session is £60. What do folk reckon the advantages of a trackman lesson are? Sell it to me...

Seems expensive to me - even though/because the Trackman unit is over 20K.

If you can get a half hour session though, I'd say it's definitely worthwhile to get your numbers - as long as you do get your numbers.

If your inconsistent with poor ball striking, I'd actually suggest that a Trackman - certainly a 1 hour one - is not actually worthwhile. Get a certain amount of consistency first would be my advice. It's very difficult to 'find an average' with results all over the place!

I believe a video lesson will provide better value for an inconsistent swinger.

How much would a normal 60 minute lesson cost. It seems a lot just for the benefit of a launch monitor. They are good and can give you a real idea of how your swing is performing and gives you data you can't always see on film or feel. My pro usues a combination of filming my swing and using a montor. We tend to get some figures up and then as the lesson progresses and we make changes we use the monitor to confirm that the figures are better. Add in seeing the changes on film and a visual confirmation seeing the ball go high and straight (until I get back on a course) and I feel I get a good all round benefit for my money

Local guy to me is using a club fitting studio with trackman and high speed video to do similar lessons for a comparable amount too. Half hour lesson from him is generally a numbers session, the full hour will include swing mechanics too.

I certainly agree that that sounds expensive and I would agree with Foxholer that it may not be beneficial if the ball striking is as inconsistent and poor as you say. However, I would add a caveat that the inconsistent ball striking could be as a consequence of varying swing path and / or varying face angle which Trackman does identify very clearly.

So may be worth considering provided your inconsistent ball striking is not a series of fats and thins etc?

Seems a bit out of date (by several years!) to offer trackman data as an 'added extra'. Our pro / assistant all use the kit in the teaching room as an integrated way of teaching the lesson, not as a pay extra and we'll also tell you this type proposition.

Where about are do you live, perhaps others can recommend an alternative with a more enlighten approach and realistic pricing!

Have to agree, my coach has just got trackman, but hasnt increased his prices from the standard £40 an hour (and he recently won coach of the year in the south west PGA). I've been amazed by it and i love having lessons with it, i'd consider an extra £5/10 an hour fair but £60 an hour is a lot IMO

Ive got one booked for next week, normal lesson is £40 and its £10 extra for trackman usage. An extra £25 over the price of the normal lesson seems pretty steep

Lessons without a launch monitor but with video feedback from a head pro in my locality (Dundee and Perth) are around £50 an hour, St Andrew Links Academy are £65 per hour - so at £60 it would be just a tenner extra over the normal lesson price here.

Most fascinating bit of my irons fitting last week was seeing my numbers and how they confirmed what I was seeing visually re: ball shape, dispertion and distance - I'd love one to be available during my lessons
