TPC or OPEN

There has been talks of the 5th Major in the states for many years now.
The newest opinion is to demote the Open Championship to a regular tour event and promote The Players Championship to replace The Open as the 4th Major. They say this makes sense as then all the majors will be in the US.
What do you think?

Who says this, the US PGA? Of course they would!! . Why not demote the US Open and have the TPC as the 4th major!! Ridiculous idea, and just shows the lengths that the US will go to to try and secure their status. Long live The Open!!

A far better idea would be to demote the PGA and have the fourth Major somewhere like Australia or Japan, hence the majors would cover the whole world geographically then.

A typically insular American viewpoint to want all 4 in the USA.

Seriously though, there should be a 5th major and it should be in May so that there is 1 a month from May to August. It should definitely not be the TPC as there is 3 already in the US.

Like Dangermouse said, somewhere like Japan should get one.

Was it not Sandy Lyle when asked about the TPC (having just won it I think) and what the difference was between The Open and the TPC, he answered "about 125 years!"
