Thanks for the advice guys..... I always play the "man" btw. Match play is a totally different beast!
Having had the pleasure of watching how consistent you are off the tee I wouldn't get overly worried. Just enjoy it and swear if you lkke.
That said my mates fiance is a Scottish international and she is absolutely awesome plus about 40 yards longer than you so if its that level of golfer I'd just go out and enjoy watching someone so good and try to learn from her.
Play well.
I recall a story someone told on here last year, always makes me think.
Higher handicap was driving well and beating lower guy over first few holes. Lower guy started driving with irons/fairway woods, higher guy thought his oppo had lost driver confidence. With the "advantage" of going first lower guy would hit the green (not necessarily close to the pin) and even if higher guy had a shot he'd panic and try to follow him in, often with disastrous
consequences.
Moral of the story is even if you're being outgunned off the tee it's not necessarily a bad thing, approach well and you can gain momentum. I do love matchplay.![]()
Finally managed to get this tie played tonight after snow delays etc! It was pretty windy but not stupid so we went ahead. Thought I should update the forum!
Not surprisingly I lost! But kept it respectable - 3&1. I was always behind but hung in there after reaching the turn 3 down. Got it back to 2 and had chances to make the last few holes interesting but didn't hole the putts.
It's fair to say we're both a bit rusty this early in the season but the real difference between us was short game and putting. In fact from 90 yards in its fair to say she was playing a different game! Certainly gives me food for thought and something to work on!
