I was invited to play yesterday in a AG golf day at Chart Hills which is a decent course fairly close to home. I played with MashleyR7, his dad and another very nice guy, so irrespective of the result it was going to be an enjoyable walk on a lovely day. It was a shotgun start and we were placed at about the furthest point on the course, so a long walk in and out but hey ho I need the exercise !
On arrival the 100 + players book in. No requirement for handicap certificates and they say that whatever your handicap you play 2 shots less!! The guys in front in the booking queue decide to add 2 shots to their handicaps before the reduction and one guy behind me, who I played with a few years ago said that his society handicap was 18 so played off 16, well he played off about 12 when I played with him! So, it wasn't going to be won off 10 h/c minus 2 shots = 8 ! They didn't seem to work out that a 10 h/c was losing 20% of his shots whereas a 20 h/c only lost 10% but then they never could work out a price match in store for me either!
However, in good company we had an enjoyable day on a course that wasn't at its best yet but ok. The prize giving was the usual 22 handicapper with 44 points and with only 3 place prizes our 14 h/c who got 41 magnificent points got nothing for 5th! The store manager in his speech thanked the 100+ for attending and said that the day was AG's present to their customers ........ A present that cost us all £55 ! But the goody bag had about £1.50's worth of golf stuff in it!
Good old AG !!
