420 yards

very tight tree lined slight dog leg

safe play is 5 iron, 6 iron, wedge

aggressive play is driver, 7 iron

the driver brings trouble and missing lift or right means lost ball

playing safe still relies on two good shots to put you in position

in in medal the safe was is the way to go for me

but what do you do in stableford? Would your thinking change?

Depends on where the hole is in the round and how well I'm playing.
I'd still probably use my 3wood as I'm fairly confident with it

4w for better accuracy combined with distance, 6 iron for the same reason but staying short of any bunkers, wedge to go pin hunting leaving a single putt or bogey for a nett par 😀

Driver into the fairway leaving about 160-170 - nice smooth 6 iron onto green. Would be the same play in born Medal and Stableford

most probably N/R

Depends on conditions, where in the round it comes and and how I was playing. I would normally take driver, and trust myself, and then depending on everything either hit a hybrid (as a short hitter) or a lay up and hope for a pitch and putt

I'd play it the same Medal or Stableford

Choice off the tee might depend on the extent of the dogleg, if it suits my eye etc and what, if any, fairway bunkers there are

to be real honest not enough info to make a definite judgement call - would always need a few more details

like dogleg which way left or right
& what's the height of the tree line
any fairway bunkers if so at what distance

& then what's the width of fairway at 270/275 (3metal carry distance)
then what's the width at 290 (driver carry distance)

if dogleg right & around 40ft width of fairway then driver or 3metal
if dogleg left then 3metal

one leaves approx 150 yards - 9i
other leaves approx 130 yards - PW

whether it was strokeplay or not

Driver into the trees right
Punt out to the rough on the other side of the fairway
Fluff a hybrid coz of the clinging clover
Fantastic 4th shot to the edge of the green
De-selerate the chip and it goes 3 yards.
Aiming for the pin, 15 yards away , fluff it so it just creeps onto the green.
Run the putt 6 ft past
Lip out to 3 inches
But it's ok coz I get a shot here

That'll be a blob then :)

The first thing to remember is that everyone has to play the hole as well, not just you. How many other people are going to struggle? Simply because a hole says "Par 4" does not mean you have to reach it in two shots and then have two putts.

You should play every hole based on your own ability. The aim is to score the lowest you can on each hole. Once you have learned the make the right decision on each shot, then you can accept the outcome a lot more. Everyone hits bad shots, there is no excuse for bad decisions.
