Too cold for golf?

would normally play in anything but have been frozen up at the range twice already this week, and not sure i'm going to bother this saturday... tee off 7.30 so every chance the course will still be completely frozen by the time we finish... chipping on to frozen greens a bit of a waste of time...
 
Well started the car at 945am today, car thermo sez -3 outside temp....!!!!
Due to tee off at 11am, couple of chores 1st
Arrive at club, temperature -1, never mind, raring to go, just worked 6 days out of 7, nowt goin to stop me today
Teed off......FREEZING, but by time played 4/5 holes, didnt think about it again
Perfect, not a breath of wind

And better still, only my 2nd full round since october, due to back injury, and shot +8 , my h/cap, so made it even better, cant wait til next time now
 
Minus 6 when we teed off this morning in Cheshire. Stunning morning. Hitting 300 - 350ish yard drives (with only 200ish yard carry, it just runs forever) is great. Getting it to stop on the temporary whites was interesting. Out again tomorrow. Love it.
 
Played 27 holes yesterday and well wrapped up so felt fine and the winter sun was stunning. Bounce was hilarious and overshot most greens with quality strikes! Range, then lesson this morning followed by 18 holes. Played a pile of poop in the main but a tailwind and concrete fairways meant I hit our 500yd 17th in 2 shots! My drive ended up where my lay up can often be (craftily placed ditch) and I cracked a 5 wood to the green.

So that's what I'll remember from the round a la Jack and forget the rest :fore:
 
Just returned home after 27 holes in temps that didn't get above 0 deg all day.I don't like winter tee's,temp greens,or layers of clothing,but it beats sitting on my arse doing nothing,or beating buckets of balls at the range.I am due to play a monthly stableford on saturday,and unless theres snow on the ground,or the course is closed i'll be there.
 
I, too, played last year in all conditions (except snow..) and I vowed that I wouldn't this year. It's just not worth it.

I played last year on the weekend just before the snow. My car display showed -5 and the course was frozen solid. I had so many layers on that the Michelin Man looked like a Weight Watchers annual winner!!
I played our par 5 11th perfectly - driver, 2 wood and the wedge to the middle of the green. The ball bounced thrity foot into the air and went into the clag behind the green. That'll be a seven then. Cheers. :(
Putting was also stupid as the ball kept hitting great lumps of ice and changing course. No interest in that.

So, this year, I'll only play if it's over 5 degrees.

I just do not get any pleasure from playing in weather like we have had. I go to be with the lads and have a laugh, I cannot take the game seriously. I know though that work are not going to ring me Monday and tell me not to come in beacuse it is too cold so I might as well go and play.
 
I crank the radiators up to full and sit watching the telly. In this weather, sod golf.
Anybody who is prepared to go out and play in freezing conditions and try to hit balls into frozen greens needs their head examining.
 
Go out at play in the cold or stay at home and do some DIY for the missus?

Unless the course is closed I will be out. Getting out on a saturday morning makes the week at work a little more bearable.
 
luckily it doesnt snow in cornwall much and when it does it generally on the moors. rarely snows where i live joy of living in one of the most southerly points in england and 1mile from the beach.
so for the cold i just wrap right up and when i play a bad shot i just blame that and carry on haha
 
Played Bullumbie castle today (Dundee) for first time 0 deg frost on the greens but no wind so wasn't to bad cracking little course although some of the walks from green to T could have been better sign posted will definately go back in summer to play well worth the £10 green fee.
 
It's going to get colder !!! Gutted as i've not played for a few weeks and cabin fever is setting in.

Missus has already mentioned going shopping in Manchester with her if the golf gets cancelled. . . . I can hear clubhouse golf and rocketballs 3 wood calling
 
I will be going up to the Club for our roll up, but good chance I will remain in the bar, and watch the sport. Few pints of London Pride will go down well, and a phone call to HID to come and collect me.:cheers:
 
no golf for me, played Saturday and although a bit nippy the course was perfect with next to no wind and no frost. Will maybe hit the range on Saturday as still havent hit the G10 driver

as much as I need the golf time and practise its just too bloody cold :(
 
I'm out on the lash Saturday night so sunday was always going to be a no-go for me, just hold the cold-snap passes and it gets a bit milder and I can get out next week sometime...
 
Watching the weather tonight,it looks like Friday could be the
last day of golf for some.
Heavy snow for some areas.
Warming up down south though,so could be out Sunday.
