Following on from my other I havent decided what to do yet.I might go and have 9 holes in the week on my own.I've been trying to nail down what the problem is. In general my game aint to bad (21 h/c). Been pretty consistant score wise loads of rounds from 90-95 even off the whites. Also had three rounds in the 80s (85,87,89) in the last 4 weeks. The problem is the frustration when it goes tits up it gets to me, also it could be that i've played to much. I know I'm going to have a bad round every so often we all do. So how can get round this. Should I just put down to one of those things and look forward to the next round. Thanks to all who replied in the other post its given me a few thing to think on

Cheers DTM

It's in my psyche to not get hard on myself when a decent round has been spoiled by a few bad moments or tough breaks. When I played for my card, it was reassuring that a big number would be ignored. I've kept going with that attitude, I'm more interested in my general play than anything....if I make a rubbish score but I've hit the ball quite well and could've made 4 or 5 shots less easy, then I'm normaly quite happy. On a few bounce games I've managed 1/2 of the holes with pars and still not quite made my h'cap....I guess most of us live with the hope that sooner or later we'll have the kind of round where we make the best of the bad and the good turns of ability/luck/fate.

Time for a bit of a reality check if you don't mind me saying so. You play off 21 so you have a pretty good idea about all aspects of the game and your scores in the 80's prove you have it in the locker to shoot low. However you are 21 for one main reason - you are not consistent enough yet!!!

My advice would be to carry on playing (especially in the good weather) but be pragmatic about your capabilities and accept that there will be some holes that you will rack up cricket scores (and feel like you will never get the bloody ball down that poxy hole). Thats golf. Even the top pros are running up triple + bogey scores this week at the Players.

Accept that it is a pastime and not a career and enjoy it rather than making it a life or death obsession every time you tee it up. If you relax a bit you will find thing will happen naturally.

PS
No sleight on your persona or ability meant - just an open and fair assessment as I see it

I agree the reality check. This is not life or death, so stop beating yourself up.
We all have a bad one, or two or ten - so what - sh*t happens! We can all still produce that one magical shot that makes it all worthwhile.

I play unofficially of 16 (self tracking of handicap) but I went through a spell of stableford results in the low 20's.

I just couldn't do anything - my favourite shot was a top, as it was all I could do. No idea where it came from, but 1 day it just went. That was embaressing to say the least - 20 years playing golf and I could only top it.

I'm back playing normally again. I have no idea what I changed, but when topping I was still never at the time to quit stage. I guess its just that I love golf - always have done, never been particularly talented at it, but still enjoy going back for more.

My advice - soak up the challenge; a bad game needs fixed, and that is what the next game is for. How about get a lesson or 2 so a pro can highlight your weakness or try to give you some drills for consistency.

Best of luck
