Played my first medal yesterday with new Hcap (10) and hit +12. The annoying thing is that this included 4 x 3putts. Even more annoying is that three of the misses were within 3 foot.

Trying to take the positives that I was hitting fairways consistently and GIR was high - but putted like an idiot.

Time to hit the putting green during the week, and a bit of Bob Rotella bed time reading

Here's a thought. Get a Rotella audiobook and get my headphones on whilst on the practice green....

Anyone else twisting the face of the putter on their backswing? Hint/tips ??

I even stayed off the wine on Saturday night, so I cant even blame the shakes.....

Relax the hands, Grip as light as possible. Putt with dead hands? Just rock the shoulders back and though. Just my way of doing it. It may work, no harm in trying anyway.

Crawfy, I bought the boxset of rotella audiobooks last week, only just started to listen to them but only 11 quid off amazon... bargain!!!!

Gibbo, I'm all over that like a bad suit !!

Got three of his books up in a drawer - but the audiobooks would be perfect. Esopeially travelling to States in a couple of weeks. Get them on the Ipod for teh plane ride. I may even return home being able to sink a 3-footer....

Had a seriously bad case of the 3-putt nasties this morning (3 out of 9), but resolved the 2 causes and putted much better this afternoon. (6 1-putts that could have been 10, no 3-putts). Swung using the shoulders rather than arms and kept head under control (still by ensuring I'm looking at grass beneath where ball was after it has gone) rather than looking to follow putt.

I had trouble doing that as it means refocussing when the ball moves and I still ended up anticipating it. What I now do is leave a gap between putter and ball and focus on the grass in the gap.

that seems like a lot of thinking...leave a gap, focus on a bit of grass etc etc. Look at the ball, look at the target, see the putt, eyes back to the ball and release it straight away. Happy days

I've had the Dr Bob audio collection for a year or so now and it has never got out of the car :) I love listening to it before a round as it fills you positive thoughts :)

I find I turn the face over if my head comes up to watch the ball. I find keeping my head still until I hear it drop stops that. Or though maybe not good for slow play :) sometimes I'm waiting hours for the wind to blow it in the hole :)

Saw this thread title and thought yet another Forumer was going to purchase a V thingy from our very own Dr Bob

I thought the same.
In fact, I had already packed the family into the car to take them to Tescos to spend the £19.99 on food.
Sadly, false alarm and it's back to being hungry again :(

Each to their own :)

I don't find that looking at a piece of grass taxes my brain too much.

I would by Dr Bobs piece of kit and then hit the practice green. Get a feeling for the correct rocking motion and then work on distance control. It takes time to putt well and with confidence but stick with it and you'll reap the benefits

Blimey - what on earth do you look at ...?

Obvioulsy it helps being half blind, cos i cant even see the ball when it's right in front of me, and it dont do my puttin any harm :) Suggest you all putt with your eyes closed ! Actually that's a good practise tip

To save all of you lots of hours of studing / listening to the Rotella books, i will giv eyou a simple summary of all of the books "Don't worry if you miss" - there, saved you all loads of quids.
