Tim on The Tee - First Shot - The One you Have Been Waiting For!

Classic!

I wasn't much better though. I'd taken two new balls with me, one for each round. The first disappeared after my sliced tee shot on the second hole.
Second round, 1st tee, I took my 5 iron again (which I'd used with success in the first round) but this time I shanked it just a bit right of where Tim's finished. :o

Tim, I think you were bloody brave to do the course, everyone wanted you to hit that shot exactly as you did, and I think its a clever move to deliberately fluff the shot just to make everyone accept you as occasionally fallible. Lets hope someone posts one of your long drives as well on youtube. Hats off to you Tim (balls of steel) Golfy.

think its 140 carry or something like that. Theres quite a few holes with a bit of a carry off the tee so anything topped or fatted has a chance of being in the [****] (add to that anything sliced or pulled aswell)

Pathetic tee shot that regardless of how bad it looks especially from the forums longest hitter.

I suggest instead of trying to smash it miles at 125mph swing speed, try hitting it straight 180 yds and you'll be ok.

Why does that affect you if you are aiming a couple of hundred yards down the fairway?
Like someone famous may have once said, 'nothing like the longest club in the bag to get the ball off the first tee, anything else is inviting failure or ridicule...or both.'
Id rather find the trees 270 up the fairway on the first than have to drop and rehit just off the edge of the teebox.

it's just psychological, especially for the first shot of the day.

Straight out of the car, no warm up. 150 yard carry with trees left & right. I've seen easier starts to a round

I'm just amazed you managed to work out how to put it on youtube!!! :o :D :D

Rick - it must have been your excellent manly guidance! :o

Gets better every time.

Saying that though, golf must be the only sport where the players consistenly go out without any warm up and none/very little practice at all.

Next time I would use a driver for sure if I was you. Smash it off the tee and go and dig it out from behind the trees further up the fairway.

Its a psychological thing also.

Ash!!

All the nice comments are lovely, unlucky tim you're a brave man etc.

Luckily yerdadindisguise said what everyone is REALLY thinking under the video comments :D

Love it or hate it IMHO it's quite a tidy looking swing. Have also seen far, far worse from people who should know far, far better.

A few lessons would go miles but I would be happy with a basic swing like that.

Yes I laughed at it but it's the laugh of recognition from of a man that has done that sort of thing more times that I care to admit to. I think of it as a Hamlet moment.

Uphill carry of 140 yards on the 1st tee with what I gather are the lads from GM gathered round - it's never going to be easy is it. (particularly in light of the ahem.. interesting dialogue on the forum that I'm just catching up on)

I'm not sure I would have the spuds to do that.

Out of interest did young Gilmour manage to connect with one of those off ANY of the tees?.. and if so did anyone stick a range finder on it?
