Tigers Press Conference

Sorry ChrisMc but I disagree and think this is all conspiracy theories designed to try and make a story where one doesn't exist. He even explained the reason the doctor in question called at his house on two separate occasions at the press conference yesterday. He wouldn't go on record if he wasn't 100% happy with what was going on

Before reading this thread i wanted Tiger tp win cause he is the best golfer if the world but after reading people calling him a "Knob" i am desperate for him to win. This is supposed to be a golf form and no a agony aunts collum in the paper discussing matter of pesonal nature and if anyone were to argue hes not the best golfer in the world well you might want to thin about another sport cause you obviously know nothing about golf.

Rant over ;)

Here Here Screwback, Nothing would please me more than to see Tiger put on another Green jacket. He is without doubt the best golfer of this generation. Nuff said.

I have never and will never cheat on my wife, regardless of the scenario I wouldnt/couldnt get the image of my family out of my head, I really dont understand those who have cheated. Does this make me hate or even dislike Tiger for what he did?
Answer: No, I actually feel sorry for him. Why? Him and everyone else who has done similar have lost a little part of their integrity that they will never get back, nothing will ever mae amends.
Regarding their chosen sport, it really doesnt matter, how many times did john daly faulter with beer etc and due to his personality he is actually reveered for it. John Mcenroe brought his sport into all sorts of headline screaming at the umpires etc. Freddy Flintoff drinking himself into the headlines etc. Did it really affect them?

You can go back further. The obvious flawed genius was Best but there was Rodney Marsh, Freddie Truman liked a beer, Piggott and his tax problems. There have always been sports stars with chequered private lives but they were still good enough to perform

I don't think that any of these guys were ever portrayed in the same squeaky clean way that Tiger was.

I'd have loved to have asked this question.....

"Tiger. If you hadn't been caught out, would you still be playing away from home, and still be cussing and spitting your way around the golf course ignoring and taking for granted the very people who have helped bring you the wealth you enjoy today?"

Lefty, I take it you dont like Mr Woods.

Would there be some jealous in your voice. I always say "if you dont like it dont watch it" and watch something else.

All this talk about Tigers personal life is all about selling papers, what else would those sado's read? Who cares what he does off the course. Did he kill someone, did he rape anyone? NO, so let the guy get on with what he does best, (well maybe 2nd best).

Not quite right Champ.

I accept that TW is a great golfer.

What I don't like is his demeanor on course. I cannot stand/understand the childish hero-worship that so many people demonstrate. Maybe some should grow up.

In no way am I jealous of him, his golfing abilities or his millions. No more so than he would be of my working career.
If, as I expect, most of the media coverage at Augusta will be of TW, then I will probably go and do something else. If I watch golf on TV, then that is what I want to watch - not 95% coverage of one person. Surprisingly enough, there are other great players there as well.

One final point to all in general, it feels like every time I have posted in this vein, respondents seem to defend him with comments saying that his private life .... etc, etc....

I challenge anyone to find any post from me over the last few months where I have made any mention, or alluded to, his private life. All MY comments have been golf related.

It seems that rose tinted glasses colour peoples ability to read and think for themselves.

Sorry Champ, the above wasn't aimed at you - just those up their own ...... and have lost the plot.

So going by that statement your referring to me then??

All I have stated is that I admire tigers ability to play golf and it inspires me and thousands and thousands of others to play golf.

I have not once attacked you or insulted you and for you to make a comment like that is out of order.

Steve

If I had been specifically having a go at you I might have said "Losttheplot" instead of "lost the plot".

You were right in your earlier post saying that there were lots of role models out there. The fact that you want to base yourself on TW however is entirely up to you.

BTW. Check out my sig.

:D :D

It's tigers golfing ability that myself and others base ourself on. It's certainly not his seriousness style outbursts or off the field antics that I'm attracted to.

It was the way your sentance reads that made me think it was directed at me. Another phrase would of been clearer than repeating my screenname. No harm done anyway.

Your not wrong in your sig. We might as well enjoy it while were here since we only get one crack at it.

It's a bit much to insist that your point of view is valid Leftie and then write a couple of lines like this and belittle the view of others!!??

So tell us wise one, what would a regular journo have done to get the answer out of Tiger.

Well, as the brother of a news editor of a national newspaper for the last decade, I do think I know a little about the processes of journalism, smartarse.

There was nothing wrong with the journos - nearly all of them would have been able to give him a much harder time had they been allowed to. It wasn't the journos at fault, it was the set up. That was the point I was making.

You obviously haven't ever seen a press conference where there are no rules of engagement beyond the normal 4th Estate rules. Woods would have walked out after about 3 minutes of that.

I think I am one of the people he is referring to, we have different opinions on the subject, the world is all about opinions. I like Tiger, Leftie doesn't, I won't lose any sleep over it.

Some interesting points made in this thread and a good read.

I've made this point before and will make it again as I think it's salient - the arguments over Woods on this forum polarise the users. If you are a Tiger fan then the stance seems to be that he is the greatest golfer ever, what he does in his personal life is irrelevant and his attitude to others is understandable as he is so driven and focused on being the best golfer ever etc. On the other hand, if you don't like him, he is positioned as an ill-mannered, duplicitous control freak, surrounded by a PR and marketing monster that pumps the Woods brand into the gullible. Either way, the point is, as Bobmac quite rightly said, no-one is about to change their mind easily so all TW related arguments can be boiled down to a single question which is do you like TW or not?

I don't. He isn't a gentleman. I don't think he's a good role model and don't believe the hype about the Tiger effect on golf. I sincerely hope that he fails miserably this week. I hope he never breaks JN's majors record and would be delighted if he was shunned by the best golf spectators in the world at The Open Championship for the next few years.

I appreciate that the Tiger sycophants will think I am utterly insane but I couldn't care less. I don't understand how people can hold him in such high esteem either. Further, I think that having Tiger as your favourite golfer is just like saying Manchester United are your favourite football team or McDonalds is your favourite restaurant or Coca Cola is your favourite drink. The biggest, most successful brand isn't necessarily the best. In fact, I rail against these mass-marketed leviathans as a matter of principle.

Rant over! Apologies if this offends and I genuinely enjoyed reading the thread.

Cheers,

Snelly.

PS - Agree that it is shameful for me to use the term "the British Open" - edited! I must have lapsed into Tiger speak although he calls it "The Briddish."

Call me old fashioned but I believe it is possible for people to read and think for themeselves and come to differing opinions.

I like watching Tiger, not so much over past two years as his behaviour has deterioted considerably - a point he spoke about this week. However, I would quite like to see him win this week - by alot. I think there's every chance he will.

Also, Snelly, you'll win no friends calling it the 'British Open' on this forum! :)
