Tigers Press Conference

I think that, despite tigers off the field antics, he is the best golfer of all time and is the main reason that golf is where it is today. Without tiger there wouldn't be the money in the game that there is today and no doubt there wouldn't be as many of us playing.

I don't condone his behaviour off the field but when he's on the course he's the real deal.

and is the main reason that golf is where it is today.

Which is where exactly?

So what? Virtually all that money goes to the top few pros at each tournament. Not much trickles down to the journeymen at lower levels who struggle to make a living.

and no doubt there wouldn't be as many of us playing.

Really?? Did you take up golf and carry on playing it because of TW? I don't know of anyone who did.

Just listened it and also thought he came accross well and relaxed. Some of those reporters should be ashamed of themselves though, Tiger's 1st press conference for months, they were lucky enough to get to ask a question and that's the best they can come up with? And they get paid for that!

It was a personal opinion and I believe he's the best by a long way in today's game and by the end of his career he'd of won more tournaments than anyone ever and with a much stronger field of players chasing him than say 20-30 years ago.

when you have a sportsman who stands out as a clear genius and in his/her sport it creates a massive interest in the game therefore promoting the sport and making it more popular. I don't know if you watch the golf on tv but when tiger turns up to a tournament there is usually thousands more who make their way to see him. And that's all across the world and that's just the ones who make it to the tournament, never mind the armchair fans too.

That is a true statement and I can't disagree but the amount of money tiger brings to the game would be lower if he was never around. As my last statement said, thousands more fans pitch up to a comp just to see tiger. Entrance fees, more food stands etc etc it all keeps people on a job.

and no doubt there wouldn't be as many of us playing.

when you see a pure talent/genius at the game then people growing up wanting to play like tiger. For the Irish kids it's probably Rory McIlroy atm since he's burst onto the scene.
I only started playing golf over the last 2-3 years and I still have pro golfers who I love to follow and want to hit the ball like.
Im 27 and still have a role model in the game and if golf wasn't such a popular sport because of these talents of their generation (Nicklaus/Seve/Tiger to name a few) then I don't think I'd of got into the game. It was watching tiger and how much support he has and how good a player he is that made me play the game. I want to be as good as him (we can all dream anyway) and he gives people inspiration to play the game.
Are you trying to tell me these people aren't role models for kids to aspire to??

Lefty, I take it you dont like Mr Woods.

Would there be some jealous in your voice. I always say "if you dont like it dont watch it" and watch something else.

All this talk about Tigers personal life is all about selling papers, what else would those sado's read? Who cares what he does off the course. Did he kill someone, did he rape anyone? NO, so let the guy get on with what he does best, (well maybe 2nd best).
I'm hopeing for a european winner, but if not Tiger will do!

I've never understood why people take such a disliking to people such as Tiger. As far as I am concerned it's about what he does with a golf club in his hand and he is responsible for most of the memorable golf moments that I can remember, he is capable of shots that no-one else is capable of in tournament play and is as far as I am concerned responsible for the single most impressive tournament victory, the 2000 US Open, when not only was he the only player under par, but was 12 under par with his nearest rival at +3.

It's always hard to compare golfers of different generations as so much has changed with equipment etc. but I'm 34 and I don't mind admitting he is my only sporting idol. What he did off the course is wrong, plain and simple, but I have never been one for caring what celebrities do in their private life. I'm glad Tiger is back and think golf is better for it.

For all those having a pop at the journos for asking soft questions, I have one simple question for you:

Do you really think they were allowed to ask hard questions

...at Augusta

...on the eve of the Masters

...of Tiger Woods?

Pointless press conference that told us nothing we didn't already know, which of course is exactly what Woods wanted.

Do you honestly think a regular journo would have let him get away with completely avoiding the question about whether his wife was OK with him playing golf after insinuating that he wasn't going to play for ages?

Come on people. I'm just surprised he didn't try and blame it on the Alien Wizard...

It was obviously a relatively tame audience, but to be fair Tiger came across better than his previous press conferences, although that was not a high bar.

The thing about Tiger is that he has never been willing to let his clubs do all the talking. There has been this whole image and intense coverage, starting with the Hello World, the use of his race by Nike, the coverage of his father's presence, illness and death.

Some of you may not have seen what that all looked like on US TV. I did, during many business trips. At times, you had to turn over or reach for the sickbag, there was so much sepia tinged coverage of the family background.

This image was built to expand the brand, and to help set up a future post-golf political career. And it is this brand which exploded, and people have a right to comment on it, as they were the ones being sold the previous version.

The in-patient therapy/sex addiction is just another part of this image management, to attempt to absolve/show penitence. I don't buy that part at all. This was a volitional behaviour, pure and simple. He could have put it away any time he wanted, but in his mind, why should he - he had the money, he had the time, he hadn't been caught, he was invincible. Oops.

If he wins this week, good luck to him, but I don't think he will.

I do not understand what people expect from Tiger yes he made mistakes but he owes us nothing, its up to his wife to forgive him I for one am just glad he is back.

Yes the Masters will be all about Tiger.........unfortunately.
Yes.......he's a Knob. for behaving like he has OFF the Course, and ON the course for the last 2 years.....swearing/spitting/arrogant/petulant blah blah.
Yes - he's the Worlds No1 Golfer, and thats because he's the Worlds Most Consistent Golfer,. whoever said the crap about him being 'able to play shots no-one else can' is far too blinkered.
No - I dont like him, currently. However, if he does start behaving more graciously and in a manner I would expect of the worlds No1, I may like him again one day. However, he'll have to earn it.

And lastly, Ive said it before & I'll say it again, ......I dont think this has finished yet. There are far too many co-incidences in his career over the last 2 years, and far too many stories circulating that link him to the the Doc still under investigation for illegal drugs. (performance enhancing)
1. Ive never believed someone could play like he did in the US Open with a 'supposedly' bad ACL injury. (Ive lived with ACL problems for 30yrs, and have endured numerous surgeries to my left knee.)
2. That 'knee reconstruction' takes him out of the game for 8mths, co-incidentally when 'random drug testing' is introduced on to the Tour .......
3. He seemed to 'Bulk up' considerably over the last 2/3yrs ??
4. I would have thought his 'indiscretions' might be caused by increased Testosterone - perhaps another by-product of illegal substance's .......

And maybe I'm barking mad.......but as I said, far too many 'coincidences' for me tbh.

That last post is bordering on being hysterical!!??

Are you one of his "conquests" by any chance? Do you feel he lied to you when he whispered "you are the only one" in your ear as you were spooning?? ;)

Thanks for giving me a chuckle on my first day back to work after a long weekend off!! :D

whoever said the crap about him being 'able to play shots no-one else can' is far too blinkered.

That was me, and if you read again you'll see I said "in toutnament play". By that I mean, under the pressure of a tournament on the back 9 on Sunday, Tiger has consistently produced shots that leave you speechless, whether it be an long iron, a wedge, a putt, time and time again Tiger pulls it out of the bag, you don't see anyone else do it consistently. If you want to call it blinkered then that's up to you but there is loads of video footage that will prove my point.

Clearly we are at oposite ends of the Tiger Fan Club :)

The more people go on about Tiger the more I want him to win.

Is it okay if I go and play golf darling. Yes Tiger. But dear, what if some journo asks if you're okay with that. Well Tiger, I would have thought that question would only come from the sun reporter, but they're too busy trying to trip up Jordan, so it's got to be the Star. Just skirt round it as it will get the backs up of the odd nosey parker.

Clearly we are at oposite ends of the Tiger Fan Club :)

It's a bit like Vegetarians argeing with butchers.
Neither is going to back down or change their mind, no matter what the other says.

But, whether you like a sausage or a lentil, you're going to see a lot of Tiger in the next 5 days. (If he makes the cut )
