I've got to disagree there Davy....Rory would've choked big style if he'd had to play Tiger!
Bit harsh there perhaps...he did just birdie his last two holes to win against Mahan after being one down with two to play. Maybe having got his initial tour win under his belt, his nerves won't be such a factor from now on.

As someone (think it was HTL) already mentioned in a different thread, did you see Rory's interview on Wed night when asked for his thoughts on possibly taking on Tiger? He went all doe eyed and gooey like a 5yo kid.

Not a chance in hell Rory would've got through that match if you ask me. In a couple of years maybe but not right now.

Is this thread about Tiger or everyone else?

In my view I am impressed that he exceeded my expectations with his play but I expected him not to rip any trees up for his first real test since returning. I also think he will be reasonably satisfied with his performance, after all it could have gone all to c**k. If he feels no real discomfort from his efforts this will give him confidence to build himself back up for his next test.

I think playing matchplay first out was no bad idea. It got him back playing without a "scorecard" so to speak in his hand. He got a feel for competition and will be happy to have played 2 rounds this week.

I expect to see a further improvement next time out.

To answer the original post, I was surprised he went out in round two - credit due to Clark who played v.well - but I didn't expect Tiger to win. He's been off for a long time and although he's good, he's not superhuman. A couple more months though and everyone better watch out

I think by the Masters he'll be back to "match fitness" - BUT....

Don't forget that even Tiger doesn't win all the time so don't be surprised if it goes either way. Will the press say he's failed if he doesn't win ? Probably. Just like they did to Don Bradman(cricketer in case you didn't know!) when he retired. He needed 2 runs to retire with a test match average of 100. He was out for 0 and finished on 99.98. But the press still used the F word...
