Tiger Woods

Not sure why this Tiger love/bash was brought about this morning?!

Why are we not giving the latest major winner the love in and the arse fall outer Perry the bashing?

Woods was never truely in it last night due to his ever present erratic driving and his inability to play 17 and 18 well over the last few years!

I tend to agree with birdieman regarding the pay checks.

A man playing to feed himself will be more hungry than a man with millions in the bank playing for pocket money.

This is when the true-battlers emerge though, I think that Tiger is one of these, he always wants to win regardless of money and definately isnt just there for the pay cheque.

The super-high prize monies available now do probably dilute the competitiveness of events as I am sure there are some who are more interested in getting away with their cheque rather than winning.

Tiger is just a media marketing tool in an era of mass media balnketing around the globe, he alone is not responsible for golf today, if he is, then I will have to start disliking him as some of the points in here I belive also are negative for golf, like the big money dulling play commitment and agression.

I don't care what he's won or what he wins, the man is totaly and utterly graceless.

Regardless of how facile the BBC bloke's questions were (and have you ever heard such awful post-round questions to pros?), he should at the very least honoured his playing partner who played one of the best 9s of Augusta history.

Look at the way Mickleson conducted his interview. Praise for Tiger and genuine sporting conduct. Miles apart in class. Do you think Woods would have had an ounce of the grace that Perry showed in defeat? Not a chance. Apparently he 'nearly won the Masters with a Band-Aid swing'. There's always an excuse with his swing with the threat of 'if only my swing had been halfway decent today I would have won' wherever he doesn't win.

And don't try and tell me it's a winning mentality. Nicklaus was always graceful in victory and defeat and there's still been none better. Unless you're Bill Elliott of course...

exactley the point there were exiting golfers Arnie Lee trevio etc I loved Seve, idolised him growing up but golf did not have the place in the world it has now and that is due entirely to Tiger Woods just look what he has done to the pay checks of all the other golfers

No it isn't. Golf popularity increased hugely when it was regularly televised in the 50s and 60s.

Golfers pay checks initially went through the roof when they were getting more appearance money than they could earn by winning the tournament.

Please, please try and see that Tiger is just another step in the every improving lot of the golfer.

Of course he is just like Apes were a stepping stone in the evolution of man but still fairly important - golf will go on after he has gone of course it will but he has moved it on further than anyone else.

I agree Tiger can be a soulless interviewee and has a ready made excuse available. I disliked his "bandaid" swing comment.

A big blip on his CV is the fact he has not won a major coming from behind on the last day.

He has been good for golf and his fellow pros will readily agree.

Golf evolves--we had Hogan, Snead, Palmer Nicklaus, Watson, Seve, Faldo and now Tiger. We will have new blood on top of the pile in the next generation.

The post round interviews say it all.
Woods never looked the guy in the eye, gave abrupt monosyllablic answers and looked like he couldn't wait to get away. It was downright rude.
On the other hand Mickelson engaged with the interviewer and gave some insight to his thoughts and his round and was polite as always.

Absolutely spot on.
One other thing that no one seems to have picked up on.
On Saturday when he was playing with McDowell. He missed a putt on 12 and was clearly frustrated, shouting "god damn it" He then walked off to the 13th tee, leaving McDowell to putt out on the green. Rank bad manners/etiquette.

The commentator said that he had gone off to deal with it as only Tiger can.?????

I do admire Tiger and think he is good for the game but he needs to get a reality check and show some humility.

Tiger has been trained (by his father) not to show any weakness which is why every media interivew after a round will always focus on the positives even if he's just shot 78. He'll say things like the ball striking was solid, few small errors but my game is coming etc. Others like Mickleson will come out and say yhey chopped it. It is a different mentality.

Tiger has undoubtedly been good for the game as a whole and for encouraging more youngsters to take it up. However there is a fine line between recognising your talents and acting with humility and being a self centred arrogant stereotypical American (brash and rude) and sometimes he crosses that line which others see and will mimic thinking it is the right way to act.

In terms of golfing talent, there are few that come close to matching his talents (Seve and Nicklaus at their prime probably the only ones) and when he is playing well he is good viewing. However there is a darker Tiger that comes out when he isn't playing as well as he thinks he should be and that is the side that needs to be addressed.

Club throwing, miserable, petulant, arrogant, and characterless to listen to post round, he is hardly the most endearing of characters is he ?

*runs away*

I agree. In my professional field the more histrionics, the less confidence currently in the system. Those that are on top of their game take the good with the bad and have an inner "calmness" exuding from their demeanour.

I play with a lots of different players and only 2 (i.i.r.c.) ever make excessive complaints/comments/post-shot doings. Truth be told, they're not very good and just lash out because they think they should be better....what? on no practice, a terrible swing and no temperament?....
It's sinking into the Pro game more and more....sadly....

I remember reading about Tiger when he was only 12 in Golf Monthly if am correct , Yet still i don't feel he will beat Jacks rec of 18 majors .

But he 2nd shot on the 18th on the last day of the Masters was classic , It has to be the best bad shot i have ever seen played at the Masters in all the years i have watched it ...

Did he feel he was gonna miss the tree
