Tiger v gmac

if you think one of those can win the masters it's either lunacy or complete Tiger hatred

I don't consider myself a lunatic or a Tiger hater, just saying that Tiger hasn't proved himself against the best in the world yet.
As for Westwood not winning, he wasn't far off in 2010

Thing is though Bob, he kind of has hasn't he, in Abu Dhabi. He may not have won but neither did Rory, Luke, Kaymer, Westwood or Schwartzel who were all in the top 6 at the time. Of those, only McIlroy finished above him by a shot, the rest were nowhere. He is competing with the best in the world whether we care to admit it or not.

Was that a Major ? In the States? Around a hilly Augusta? With a suspect Achilles ?

No but it was the same for everyone else and he out played all but Rory. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one Bob as we obviously look at it from opposite perspectives. For me the fact it's a major is more of an issue for the rest of the playrrs than Woods, after all, he's won considerably more of them the the others. The fact it's Augusta, a course that Tiger loves playing, again I don't see an issue. The fact all the top players are there, Woods is one of those top players. The achilles injury, that's an unknown quantity so I'll give you that as an element of doubt. But if the injury is no issue, taking into account it's a major at Augusta and purely on golfing ability and current form, I don't see how anyone can not consider Tiger to be a serious contender.

Great to see Woods in control of his swing last night and clearly has to be considered a contender at Augusta. Don't think this win necessarily makes him the favourite as there are a whole host of players hitting it well at the moment. Top 6 in the world seems to be a bigger statement as he is clearly racking up the points with more regularity and I wonder how long before he is back and challenging for the #1 spot.

I don't mind who is in the mix come the back nine on Sunday at the Masters as it is always a great view. Ideally Luke, Lee and Rory will all be in the mix and Woods will be charging as he use to. Could be a classic

Tiger does have the advantage of having done it at Augusta before though. Donald, Westwood, McIlroy, Kaymer (odds on him making the cut?) all go into Augusta having never won there. Years of failure between them, whilst Tiger has a great record there.
McIroy will be fired up after last year, but I'm not sure that will help him.

Last weekend Tiger could only beat what was in front of him. He won in a limited field at the Chevron, and was criticised for 'only' winning in a small field. Now he wins a PGA tour event, and is criticised for 'only' winning when no one else turns up. To me, love him or loath him, he is back, and one to watch out for.

I do wish it didn't become the Tiger show though, it is wearing thin. It's not his fault, but it does spoil the viewing when it is all about one person.

Right, I'll say this; I'm happy for Tiger, I really am, and you have to admit, watching him attack pins like he did yesterday and seeing glimpses of the "old" Tiger was great Telly...

But my first thought once he won was "oh great, now the Tiger show will be even more prominent on the golf coverage". I was looking forward to a decent Masters, but I can't help but think the Yanks will go crazy and it will just be "Tiger. The Masters - The final frontier".

as an aside, as much as I like Gmac I can't get used to his swing.

with regards Tiger, I like him a lot, great for the game, exciting to watch.............what's not to like as a golf lover?
I hope its an exciting Masters with many Europeans in contention

Exactly my thoughts,I posted on here a few weeks back that he was getting very close to a win and I was slated for it cos a lot of people here thought he still couldnt put 4 rounds together,Its bad news he can and even tho i`m not a Tiger fan he looks like he`s here to stay again.Lets just hope messers Mcilroy Donald and Westwood can ruin he`s party at the Masters and lets face it the Palmer tournement was a very depleted field.

A very good win for Tiger last night and it was more like the Tiger of old. However I don't think he will win at Augusta - I think he'll be in the top 10, but I don't think he'll win. Yesterday he had the luxury of starting the final round with a healthy lead, and once the others started dropping shots and falling away, he had no real pressure on him. As such I am still not 100% convinced yet that his new swing will stand up when the pressure is really on, particularly at Augusta when the roars reverberate round the course. Of course we'll only know in a couple of weeks whether his game is now back to where it needs to be to contend on the final Sunday at a major. Going to be a great build up though to the Masters with all these questions remaining to be answered! The anticipation is building nicely now!!

I totally agree with your last statement, I just hope that the US coverage doesn't forget about the European's if they're in contention. The players love the fact he's (seemingly) back to his best though if Twitter is anything to go by. And why wouldn't you?

Really? Tiger hasnt proved himself but you're trying to make a case for Westwood because he came close 2 yrs ago? IS it me or is the major count Tiger 14 Westwood 0 - unbelievable how this site is pro the English/European and anti Tiger at times

I think Bob meant with his new swing. But I get the point you're trying to make.

Either way, the Masters is shaping up to be one of the best ever!

And of course it's pro English/European! Seems logical to support our own before any one else I think, Particularly those annoying yanks ;) (for the record, I love America and would happily live there - but only in Seattle).

Good win for him.

You can see where the TV companies are coming from, I was reading this morning that TV viewing figures were up HUGELY (50% odd) for the Bay Hill v last year. That is always the case where Tiger (love him or hate him and I'm not in either camp) is involved so the TV companies will always screen him.

Im thinking Bob means since his come back ,which is Tiger 0 Westwood 0.. i didnt sence any anti tiger in any of it .. How is saying " i think Tiger is too good a player to not win again" anti tiger ??

& surely its a fair question to ask can he do it when the rest of the best in the world are present ? surely its a question we are all wondering , i hope he wins the Masters been honest but as the man said time will tell ...
