Tiger tantrum

Got to defend Tiger here, I see him do it about 3 times and he wasnt taking chunks out of the ground whilst slamming the club down. I've seen much worse, who was the fella who got a fine for smashing the golf ball shaped tee marker to bits a year or so ago?

We all know how frustrating the game can be. I sometimes do it if i hit a bad one on the range so cant imagine how i'd feel if i'd worked tirelessly for months to get match fit then hit a bad tee shot.

I'm sure Ewen Murray would have found a way of suggesting the turf should have been grateful for being touched by the hand of God...

I was sick to my stomach when he compared Woods coming back from a bloody knee injury to play a sedate sport lilke golf to Muhammad Ali and then, even worse, Lance Armstrong!

Armstrong has life-threatening debilitating disease, comes back from it and goes on to win the most gruelling endurance event in the Tour de France.

Woods damages his knee, has surgery, comes back and plays golf.

I'm sorry but there is no comparison. Golf is a great sport, but it ain't the most physically demanding (unless you can find me a bunch of 70 year old rugby players...).

Christ, Vaughan went through more with his knee reconstruction and came back and hit a ton. And he even had to break into a run every now and then...

Woods is just a golfer coming back from an injury - just like Luke Donald. He just happens to be the media whore that all the sponsors want to see and so do we (apparently...)

Grumble over...

As I said in the other post, I find him rather petulant and sullen, and despite his undoubted superb golfing ability, I dont particularly like him, or indeed the overhyped attention the media is intent on giving him.

I'm sure if the guy lightened up a bit, he'd probably play even better, which sadly is all the more scary for everyone else.

Agreed - last night was all about him or watching the cactus grow - the options were of equal interest.

Well said that man! whats wrong with showing some frustration to a bad shot! Agreed Ewan Murrey does drone on a bit and i find him quite irratating but my main interest is to see Tiger play golf. I don't care what he does any other time whether its smiling, throwing clubs or blowing his nose I don't really care. Its just great to see the fella play golf!

Interesting Dodger and I have no problems with the greatest golfer label but I don’t go along with the greatest sportsman bit. Exciting, yes, but his tantrums honestly made me turn off. I don’t see it being any part of our great game. It’s nothing to do with taking a lump out of the tee or not, it’s the signal he sends out. I see more and more youngsters doing the same. My young nephew has not long started, he’s doing it and he worships Tiger.

Pinseeker, he slammed his club one time and it wasn’t even a bad shot. He was perfectly placed for the shot into the green and the ball only ran off the fairway into the second cut. We should not be making excuses for bad behaviour and that’s what it is.

Let’s get one thing clear, as far as comebacks are concerned Tiger is not even on the same planet as Hogan after his near fatal car crash to then come back and clean up three majors on the bounce.

I think tiger woods is like marmite, and whilst i hate marmite i have to say I love Tiger Woods.

Lance Armstrong on the other hand has achieved great things and of course I would not wish his illness on anyone. However whilst I dont know all of the ins and outs of the story I'm sure he's a drug cheat??? which for me takes away all of the excellence he ever achieved.

Bit like Maradonna, as great as he was the hand of god and the drug cheat scandal with him took alot of the gloss off what should have been a sensational career.

Both on and off the course Tiger carries himself extremely well.... beating his driver on the ground doesnt change that.

Nowt wrong with a tantrum Tommo you canny beat it...better oot than in as long it's gone 2 minutes later! :D

I wouldn’t like to see this as being okay.

Tommo,

He wasnt standing on the tee smashing the hell out of the ground, he literally beat his club down on to the turf, not even hard. I've seen alot worse when watching the euro and pga tours. I honestly cant see how you have taken offence to this? Are you a football fan? I'd say wayne rooney or any other football player yelling in the refs face and quiet clearly swearing is much worse than this and shows much leess respect. Yet no one gives theem any stick for it.

Substitute Tiger for Monty, and suddenly the tone of the coverage changes 180°, THAT's what gets on my tits. It's the double standards involved in everything that tiger does.

No evidence to back this up whatsoever.

What annoys me about Tiger on top of the OTT double-standard coverage he gets, is his double standard image. His blatant disregard for the paying public, like not wanting to practice with the rest of the team at the Ryder CUp, and to be out and in again before the gates have even opened on practice days, something he does at the Open as well.

He mat be "media" friendly, but he's not public friendly. He earns a lot of money from that same public, but does his nest to avoid them as much as possible. He seems to forget that the fans pay at the gate to see him, not pay at the gate to see that he teed of at 5am and was back in his hotel by 8.

Like i said, i know very little about the Lance Armstrong case and to be honest I care very little for cycling but I undertsand he has achieved alot. Since my first post I have read a little on drug cheat scandal but the problem with the internet is if you look at enough sites you'll find arguements for both sides of the story so i'm really not sure whats true and what isn't. BUT there is no smoke without fire.

Also with regards to tiger warming up seperately, this could just be a case of helping him prepare mentally for the round ahead.

I have to say, most of the best sportsman over time have had a certain arrogance about them, maybe its what makes them great.
