After today's poor performance, is the great man's Major career over?
People are talking about Adam Scott's erse falling out down the stretch, but surely a man who doesn't have the courage to hit his driver when he needs to make some birdies must be past it.
Tiger looked very, very ordinary today.

Discuss!

Yeah, third in the open; clearly past it.

Seriously though, I actually agree with Faldo (). Until he can regain the ability to hit a driver with confidence he isn't going to win another major.

Tosh total tosh, heard it all before about Tiger how many said he was finished but he has won three times recently. Look at it this way, he finished third in the Open without his driver what kind of achievement is that?

If he'd been able to use his driver do you think he'd have won?

Disagree. Think tiger can still do it. He still has got good game going. Ok he didn't get out the bunker great but he took the shot on in an inventive manor. I still and always have liked him.
If a drivers not firin he showed you can still score well by leavin it out and concentrate on placement! Ppl bang on about course management and I think that's what he was doing.

yeah he is doing well and is improving all of the time. He even smiled this weekend.

I said it before his first game back, you dont lose talent, just your game and that can be worked on

He seems to have lost the knack of doing what needs to be done in a major. Having said that he didn't collapse like he did in the US open & only finished 4 shots behind. To write him off would be silly, but he is not the player he was & trying to get that back at the age of 36 will be tough.

I don't see what not using a driver has to do with his not winning, did he not win hitting only 1 driver previously?
Longest drive of the week westy a forum average :) 367 yards but didn't do him a lot of good? Or Rory who whacked his driver around all over the place.
Spent force I don't think so Ernie was supposed to be finished???

Problem is majors are normally set up as a more difficult test than the average tour event. Usually have a premium on driving distance and accuracy. If Tiger can't hit his driver anywhere near the fairways he will either be doing a lot of chopping out, or if he hits irons he is going to be hitting long irons into greens all the time.

Reason I thought he would have a good chance in the Open if it remained calm. First three days he didn't need driver, but once the wind got up he was never going to win. The defence for links courses is the wind, and when it came it produced a proper links golfer as the winner.

It's to do with being able to hot shorter irons into the greens and reach par 5s in two hits.

Crap example of Rory spraying his driver all over the place. The point is he needs to be able to pull driver out and hit it with confidence where he wants it to go.

Scott birdied all the par 5s in the first three rounds - going with driver and getting up in two as often as not. Tiger didn't have that option. It worked for him on Thursday but as he lost touch he didn't have a "plan B".

I think he will be quite upbeat by his overall performance. He left a lot of putts short that in his hayday would have been rolled in confidently. He isnt a spent force but definitely lacking a bit of self belief and confidence in his all round game imho

Interesting thread

This open showed form is temporary and class is permanent like big Els, class act.

Is Tiger finished? Depends on what finished means.

Will he win again? Yes, he's won a few times this year but in limited fields without some of the the top 10 in the OWGR. Anyone notice he's played in events this year that he normally skipped?

Will he win another major? Debatable, I'm glad he didn't win and was 4 shots off the pace at the end.

I also glad he didnt win today after all the hype about him being the one to beat when quite clearly he wasn't.

Hardly a spent force the season he is having...topping the US money list with a few wins already this year.

But he isn't going to dominate golf like he did.The driver is a problem as Mr Faldo pointed out but to me the putter doesn't perform like it did...not having the same troubles Els has had to fight through but before if he putted well he won by plenty and if he putted poorly he more often than not just won...

Still the best golfer ever in my opinion regardless of winning another major or not.

I'm not sure he is as confident off the tee anymore hence the iron play, if the wind had blown earlier in the week I don't think he'd have finished as high.
