Tiger..Spent Force ?

He clearly has an issue hitting driver under pressure. First two holes in the last round of the master were snap hooks. Perhaps he doesn't trust it. Perhaps he had a strategy which blew up in his face. I think that 3rd place shows he is still a capable player but not a dominant force. He can win on tour playing driver when he can spray it but on tighter courses the inability to drive wil be a problem.

Can he win a major again? In my mind no but as Els has proved you can never say never

don`t think it was so much his long game but his distance contol on his wedge game was well out and his puttin is suspect now - just dribbles it to the hole whereas he used to bang them in - seems to fear the one back now ...

Welcome back Euan, hows tricks?

Would agree with you about his putting not being in the same league as before.

Back to cat 1, putting well but inconsistent ball striking not helping!

You all know my love for the not-so-cuddly-big-cat-creature is never starting.. (as opposed to never ending).

BUT, he's certainly on the road to recovery and will sort it out.

I was looking forward to some epic Tiger-ness today and it all went a bit mushy on "that" hole. I was pleading out loud (in front of the family, who were out on the patio) for him not to take on that bonkers bunker shot.

His swing looks good, his irons were terrific i.m.o. he was miles back and still hitting the middle of most greens.

He'll fix it. Then he might start smiling too. :)

Considering he only really played this week with 13 clubs, you've got to say that it was a phenomenal effort from Tiger to even be in contention. However, as others have said, if you haven't got confidence in your driver, then it is going to be very tough for him to win a major again, particularly the Open if the wind is really blowing into your face. So at the moment I think his problem is between the ears rather than with his game.

Fortunately though my £5 bet with RickG that he will never win another major (Tiger not Rick :whoo:) is still alive..........but he's definitely putting pressure on that!!

Yeah I'd say he is finished alongside Rory, Donald, Westwood and any other player who finished below 3rd place... Another ridiculous Tigers finished thread!!!

I noticed the Els is finished thread has been dug out, so I'll have to remember to bring this one and all the others back up when Tiger wins his next major!!!

I love the way so many on this thread seem to be able to see into the future, and know for certain what will happen to Tiger.

The thread is asking for opinions. Can't understand why people get so hot under the collar when someone has a different one to their own.

What I would like to know is..........
If Tiger wears a red shirt on Sunday to intimidate his opponents, why doesn't he wear a red jumper too ?

Interesting thread

This open showed form is temporary and class is permanent like big Els, class act.

Is Tiger finished? Depends on what finished means.

Will he win again? Yes, he's won a few times this year but in limited fields without some of the the top 10 in the OWGR. Anyone notice he's played in events this year that he normally skipped?

Will he win another major? Debatable, I'm glad he didn't win and was 4 shots off the pace at the end.

I also glad he didnt win today after all the hype about him being the one to beat when quite clearly he wasn't.

People keep banging on about his previous wins not having the top 10 (although one of them had 5 of them but we seem to forget that)in the field like the top 10 are the only players capable of winning. It's complete tosh. Where were the top 10 this week? I'll tell you where they were; all below Tiger. It's a falacy that Tiger can't compete with the top ten and it's a falacy that the top 10 always compete.

Tiger has never been the straightest with driver so I don't see much of a change there, being able to hit it straight would have given him another option and I'm sure he is the first to admit that. Is he finished, unfortunately for many who would love him to be - not a chance

Something has to change.
Coach, gurus, lifestyle, practice regime, whatever.
If Tiger Woods can't stand on a flat piece of ground and hit a ball off a tee with an iron and hit a fairway, there's something very wrong. And if he cant do it with an iron, what hope has he got with the driver?
This was one of the 4 tournaments players work towards all year with their preparation on and off the course so they peak just at the right time.
If this is Tiger at his best, it's not going to be good enough.

Tied 3rd in a major with only 13 clubs. Definatley not spent.

I agree with Bob ^.

There's something not quite right with his mind set at the minute. Seems very hesitant over shots to me and that can't be good at any level.

As regards his driver. Maybe he should go for a custom fitting and see if that helps

No way is he finished, anyone who can get into the top few of a major has the ability to win it, it comes down to a little bit of luck sometimes. He didnt have any with those bunkers yesterday

Ernie was lucky to win yesterday, a great putt on the last, gave him a chance, the rest was lady luck

Tiger is not firing on all cylinders clearly, but if you can come 3rd in The Open with that form, then clearly he remains a danger.

I would not be at all surprised if he wins one of the big ones in the next 2 years

Just so long as Lee and Luke get one as well :)

Good thread this.

Tiger did play particularly well over the 4 days if we are honest but not well enough to secure the win. He also played particularly well at the US Open, bottom line is he didn't play well enoug to win.

Im not convinced Tiger will dominate again or win another major for that matter, I reckon his knee will be the deciding factor in his game more than anything. Anyone who has that amount of knee surgery must realise it won't hold forever, what is it now? 4 knee ops? Not old by any means but he aint getting any younger.

Of course he's not 'finished'...

But by the same token his days of winning 'at will' are behind him...

Most probably still the 'best' currently playing...

Think I've covered all bases ;)...

I agree that he still has a way to go but he only missed 10 fairways all week so I don't think hitting a fairway with an iron is his issue. Personally I think this was just another step in his return. He'll go away, he'll learn from it and he'll come back stronger.

On a separate note, did anyone realise he is now world number 2? Finished? Yeah right.
