Tiger hits $1.3 billion

Some people in sport put bums on seats. They are worth the money. They make neutrals watch a sport they wouldn't normally watch, and when they play, they increase viewing figures exponentially. Tiger is one, roger federer another, Thierry Henry, Lionel messi, Christiano ronaldo, etc. They are all worth the money. Corporate sponsors wouldn't bother otherwise.

Cilla black used to earn about 16 mill from the BBC, so did Jonathan Ross. Were they worth it? Not to me. But the viewing figures justified it.

Big business. Yes, they earn the cash. Do they deserve it? Yes, if the shares, profits, and dividends pay out, then yes, why not reward the high performers.

I have way more issues justifying the wages of mediocrity. Premiership footballers who you have barely heard of making 50k a week, minor e list celebs on big brother, what ever.

Most golfers need to win their money. With that might come endorsements, but for most, these dry up when the winning stops. A few super stars continue, but they are the cream, the rest sink into obscurity. I don't begrudge the few who make it.

Fair play to Tiger for raking in that much wedge from a game.

I think he deserves every can say it was here before and it will be here after blah, blah.. But he did change the game on its head, he took the majors apart when he turned pro, even Augusta had to change what they said would never be changed.

He brought about the term Tiger Proofing courses and made everyone else step up their games. He brought about real change in the physicality of it all to, yes Player was a gym freak in his Era but he never got it to the extremes its at today where a large protion of golfers are so well honed and athletic (us bunch excluded)

Its also made others step up the game and way they play now, so IMO he deserves it. He's earned it and I hope he earns a shedload more and everyone else to because they get to be well paid for doing something they love.

But it is a fact that TV viewing figures are up when Tiger plays.

Is it ? I have no idea - I do know that before Woods came along Golf was popular in this country

And I certainly don't watch a tournament because of him - I would actually prefer him not to be playing - that way we might see more of the other players. When Woods is on then it's nothing but Woods regardless of his score or who the leader is.

He brought money into the game - massive money , but he also brought scandal and bad attitude into the game

Golf would have thrived just as well if he wasn't around - it's certainly more enjoyable for me when he isn't playing

Spot on. If the likes of Nani at Utd are on £95k pw then Ronaldo & Messi are under paid.

Yes I have, and I'd rather watch the best, than a clown. I'm not going to the circus, or the comedy club. I'm watching golf. And currently, and for some years, tiger is the best golfer.

Yeah I've seen him at the Open. Bubba & Phil were their as well.

Chelsea/man city fc. England national team. Tiger Woods......... It gets boring:sbox:

Starting to take an unhealthy interest in me - should I get worried ? Is my bunny safe.

If having an opinion is boring then Christ we live in a boring world

The thing is; what do you do with all that money? It would be nice if they left a legacy of some kind to help the would be pros of future generations to maintain the level of achievements that they have for their country and the sport in general.

I think you'll find that the likes of tiger, phil, ernie, oosthuizen, player, and more have golf foundations helping under privileged kids get into golf, and education too.
