Thoughts on the Callaway Big Bertha Driver 2014?

Doc Hock said a few months back that Callaway are going to limit production of new clubs from now so that when they reach the end of the cycle there won't be that many left in circulation.
Quite how that's going to work I'm not sure but it should mean that the prices won't necessarily drop as there won't be much stock to reduce.

Hit both at a recent fitting @ St Andrews. The Alpha is superb. Knocks spots off the X Hot 2. Real strong flight and lovely feel and sound. Fubuki shaft is also good but I'll stick with my Oban.

Could be tempted by one if the deal is right but lets pay off the new irons first lol

Ahh great stuff, someone who has used it!

Sounds like an ideal world, which we don't live in

I'm desperately trying to avoid hitting the driver.

The Apex pro irons could well tempt me and they're expensive enough!

My last 3 drivers have been callaway. Ft 9, razr hawk and razr fit xtreme. I've never found anything longer. Seriously underrated kit. Wouldn't in a million years pay that sort of money for a driver. I actually got my razr fit free after the hawk split on the sole!

My RF was my first proper fitted driver with a Bluebaord shaft and still smashing it well at the moment... I bought it when there was a promo before Xhot launched and would only change it when/if the price drops on the new line next year... gotta admit I wanna give the BB, BBA, X2Hot a hot though, and as for the Apex Pro's are way too tempting, however my 2009 X forged's are so pure I can't see them shifting till I wear them out!

Mine are arriving tmrw whoop whoop

Latest Callaway gear is most impressive.

Very jealous!! Be good to hear how you get on them......

I agree, never really had any Callaway stuff until last year but very impressed with pretty much everything I've tried (not so keen on the wedges I had)

Just from the first few posts it's clear to see £399 is too much, even as a RRP. It should also be remembered that the peeps who read and post on this forum and the mag are dedicated golfers. If we won't pay £399, not many will.
Callaway can say what they want about maintaining the price through a clubs lifetime and limiting production and I can see why they would want this, but in truth they are not going to sell many at this price. Even if the price was never altered when the next model comes out, people will either look on the secondhand market or more likely buy a more reasonably priced club from another manufacturer. The only way they are going to shift drivers at this price is if they are truly revolutionary and no one else copies the technology. Every type of product has a price point, usually based on the market value which is based on what people will actually pay. £399 for a driver is above the price point.
