This Is What Is Wrong With Golf Coverage...

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

It would have been different if Luke had won in the US instead of another faceless American - I'm sure he's a good guy but...

Tiger's new caddy is a big story, even if us battle-hardened sceptics don't agree. The Masses know Tiger. For the majority it's a case of Bill Who? or "who cares about the SC".

Totally agree with you but surely that is all the more reason to improve the coverage so people know who Bill is or give them reason tocare about the CS.

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

In simple terms, Tiger puts "bums on seats." In other words he's an advertisers dream.

I agree with your sentiments but its business that makes the (Golf) world go round.

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

In all likelihood, the BBC web editor who made the decision probably knows booger all about golf, this will be one of hundreds of pages they are looking after and seeing the name Tiger Woods in the story thought "That'll do".

Says more about staffing levels than editorial policy I suspect.

It's only a big story because of the loudmouth he got rid of - as a rule most people don't care who is on the bag irrespective of how dominant a figure the golfer is. How many people outside the game can name the caddies of the top 10 golfers.

Lets face it, its only news because of the well publicised antics of the golfer and the equally well publicised reactions/claims of the sacked caddie with all his major wins. ;)

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

Tiger is news. He's still the biggest draw in the game by a mile and anything he does is still going to get plenty of coverage.

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

Tiger may be big news - but given that he is the golfer why should the fact he has appointed a new caddy be big news - it was obvious it was going to happen at some time.

I may be a cynic but why did he have to announce it on the day the Fedex Cup was decided - to get him and Nike more publicity perhaps.

Don't get me wrong I am not a Tiger hater but I think the timing of the announcement could have waited 24 hours and at least allowed the achievements of the ladies in the Solheim Cup and Mr Haas to get the coverage they deserved.

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

Think itsa good for everyone involved except poor Dustin Johnson. Tiger gets a good bag man, LaCava will be on a good earner and with the potential for big bucks IF Tiger can find some form.

To be honest had a flick through a lot of the online newspapers today and the lack of Solheim coverage is very sad especially given the nature of the result. Kudos to Sky for their investment in televising it and getting a brilliant conclusion as a reward

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

Butch Harmon was miffed that the caddie didn't consult with him first before joining Woods. I think he may not have been complimentary.

Typical of Tiger Woods.

No one can doubt his once brilliant golf, but as a person I'm afraid he lacks a lot.

Re: This Is What Is Wrong With Golf...

Typical, everyone blames Tiger for the timing.

Butch Harmon let it out of the bag during TV coverage. Tiger was keeping schtum til after the fed ex because he did not want to detract from the event.

Butch was upset that tiger had apparently not asked DJs permission to talk to LaCava.
