Thinking about a range finder?

I have a Hillman laser and a Shotmiser GPS. Both are great and the laser is handy at times when either the course isn't mapped or GPS is playing up and you aren't 100% trusting of the yardage given by the device. One tip though. Alway buy batteries from a trusted source ;)

The Hillman rangefinder is cheap and works everybit as well as the Bushnell's I've compared it to in side by side tests.

I just sold mine as I was using it less and less as I became accustomed to distances better through regular play.

I have opted for a SkyCaddie though which still gives me distances at a quick glance but more importantly shows me distances to hazards that cannot be seen at times.

I have the bushnell v2, find it excellent. Mentioned in another thread that I just changed the battery after 4 months. Bit disapointed that the battery didnt last longer but performance wise I find it excellent

+ 1 for the bushnell.

My club as distance marker on all the sprinkler heads down the fairway almost evert 10 yards, but mine still comes in handy esp on large greens.

Bushnell V2 is the market leader in Lasers. Nikon 350G is the other big name brand. I prefer the Bushnell.

SkyCaddie is the market leader in GPS. SGX is their top model SG2.5 probably best value - but requires £29.95 yearly subscription. I had a Sureshot (no subscription) but was horrified to find it wasn't very rain resistant!

Lasers have an advantage over GPS if you want distance to a pin. GPS have an advantage over Laser for distances to hazards or if you can't see the pin. Laser is completely portable (course to course) with no subscription, while some GPS need courses to be downloaded, at least to get all features for the course, and some GPS require a yearly subscription.

If you are considering a Laser, be aware that the Slope feature will render it invalid for use in competitions. There are GPS Apps on smartfones, but if you can have a compass or thermometer app running concurrently, that will also render it invalid for comps!

Hope that helps.

Highly recommend the Bushnell Medalist, that's my weapon of choice. I used my pro's V2 a couple of weeks ago and actually preferred my Medalist in all honesty. The good thing about the Medalist is that it has everything you need (to stay within the rules) and is much cheaper than the V2. Heard good things about the Hillman but with no pinseeker it makes it a little harder to get accurate yardages and know exactly what you are targeting.
