Cheers SILH
Had a word with my neighbour. The choir is hopeful they will receive Arts Council funding to take the production to South Yorkshire…Sheffield Cathedral perhaps - now that would be something.

There was a short item about the piece on Ch4 News a couple of nights ago…shot in a rehearsal without the full brass and in a local church that the community is raising money to buy as a new Chesterfield arts hub.

Whilst getting my bike out this morning noticed loads of geese flying over and a dog walker stopped to watch too, much have taken about 2 minutes for them all to pass. Commented to the wife at lunch and looked up migrating geese and now have a far greater respect for them , boy do they cover some distances .
They fly above our house at about 50 feet high. You can hear the wind from their wings flapping. I look up every time if I’m outside.

Do you live near a body of water?
We have a lake nearby populated with geese, ducks, swans, cormorants etc so we often see geese overhead, in formation and honking, coming in or leaving.
I opened my door once to see three ducks waddling around my drive. (I think they get quackered knicker and were having a break). 🙂
No, nearest would be about 5 miles as the goose flies

It's often said that you should never meet your heroes.
Wrong!
I met one of mine today and he was a lovely, humble man who had as much time for me as I wanted.
His name is Jerry Shirley.
For those who don't know, he was the drummer of my favourite band, Humble Pie.
What a band, what a man.
Oh, and some of the stories he could tell!
Absolutely made my day and he thanked me for making his day, too.
Feel the same with Fish. A pub, open fire and a few beers and let the man talk. What a life. Also lucky enough to meet Jasper Carrott who was an absolute comedy hero of mine. Again, a quiet corner, a pot of tea and listen

No, no, no.
Please share, I have two wax jackets that are current leakers!
Ok.
I've got two. A lined Barbour and an unlined, single layer Fjallraven. It's worked brilliantly on both, even though Barbour tell you never to do step 1...

1. Wash in the machine at 40°c with a mild detergent and no fabric softener. Let them air dry.
2. Buy a Fjallraven Greenland wax bar - about £9 on Amazon and follow these instructions...

Don't overdo the wax. It only needs to be a thin layer and you can always add a second. i used about half the bar on two jackets. I then put them on metal hangers in the garage and melted the wax with a hot air gun.

The solid bar of wax is way better than the oily Barbour stuff which comes in a tin which you have to melt then basically paint on with a brush or sponge. It gets everywhere, soaks through into the lining or whatever you're wearing under the jacket, attracts dirt and smells. The wax bar is completely clean and dry unless you heat it up.

Had another call from my daughter in floods of tears yesterday, she was in lots of pain and needed to get to the RVI in Newcastle for an assessment.
So why is this in the gladness thread? The people at the RVI were amazing, got her looked at pretty quickly to say there was a huge queue, had her sorted with a temporary leg cast and an appointment this Thursday with the specialist at the fracture clinic.
Very impressed despite the obvious stress they were under 👌
