3 today, all in the space of 30 minutes

1/ 1st mince pie of the season 😋

2/ Both my colleague and myself got the 3 in 10 today, Bob Marley for the record, with 6 completely different titles . Never done that before, we were very pleased with ourselves

3/ We realised that we could start using our internet to make phone calls, we have fibre to the premises, saving ourselves line rental, phone package and and a few other things. Not a huge saving but beats a kick in the teeth. A new router to enable this is on its way

A good 30 minutes

Discovering Goldfish Chinese Curry Sauce Concentrate, oh my days 😮😋

Aye, it's superb! Do you add anything additional in? Like to put a little MSG, garlic powder and fresh chili in mine.

The Golden Curry blocks are also excellent, though admittedly they're more for a Katsu style curry then a traditional Cantonese one. Just that little bit sweeter.

I remember plying local Cantonese takeaways for the 'secret' to that traditional curry sauce. Only one ever relented and gave me any notes and even then it only ever benefitted when making a vat of the stuff.

I only really added chilli flakes for extra heat but now I know how it tastes I’ll be experimenting 👍
Where do you get MSG from? Never seen it in supermarkets.

Seeing these little critters today. Hawksbill turtles that are a few hours old and hatched on the hotel’s beach this morning. They will be released back to the sea this evening when it is dark.
When I had a drive in Costa Rica last year we came across a beach about 12 miles long. There was millions of turtle eggs that looked like squashed ping pong balls. Along the beach. The turtles lay them. The following night other turtles lay their eggs and dig up the originals and repeat. It was unreal to see.

If we’re lucky we might see some come ashore at night to lay their eggs. South coast of Barbados. The female ones that make it will return to the same beach in approximately 20 years to lay their own eggs. How do they know without GPS? A similar thing to homing pigeons maybe. Not sure even the scientists know how they do it.

I’m my naval years I had trouble finding the ship after a good run ashore🤪 and that was only a few hours. 😁

On the day we saw the thousands of turtle eggs on the beach I drove a few miles down the coast and came across a group of students digging up turtle nests. They were part of a conservation group that re house the nests and colour code them re what type of turtle they were and when the eggs were laid. Fantastic to see.

BMW Accident Service, total godsend. Had someone hit the side of my car on Saturday, not sure how they didn't see a bright orange 5.1m long car, but that's people...

Anyway, Called BMW accident support, a free service, 10 mins after the accident at 2.15pm. Recovery truck came and collected my car 30 mins later to take it to the body shop.

BMW Support called this morning, all the details logged, replacement car sorted and I need do nothing more as they will interface with the fault party insurer. All inside a total of 30 mins of 'on phone' time for me.

Cannot fault their service.

That's good to know. My first BMW and certainly feel a bit of brand loyalty as can't fault their customer service in general. Booked in for first MOT and brake fluid service tomorrow. Decided to take the just wait option as getting a courtesy car just meant I'd drive home and wait to go back again. They called to check all was still good for tomorrow and I asked do they have free wi-fi. "Oh yes of-course. Free wi-fi, free tea and coffee, biscuits and fruit whilst you wait". Might make a day of it :)

Oh forgot. They also give a free pre-warranty-expiry check in case they find anything that's amiss but covered by the warranty.

Have to say that Skoda do exactly the same - at dealership I use anyway. (Of all the things you mention, only the fruit is missing - and I can live without an extra apple :))

Yeah, it’s a good service if it’s a non-fault incident. I get a replacement car tomorrow, like for like so 8 series until mine is repaired.
Would have gotten the replacement today if were it not for me playing at Kingsbarns 😁

We heard late yesterday that my 93yr old MiL (who is currently in hospital recuperating from a broken hip) has been accepted by a care home in her local town - just three miles or so from her own home.

Yes accepted 🙄 as the care home put her through a thorough 2hr Q&A session as well as talking to the hospital medical team before deciding they would or could accept her.

Think it’s about £1100/week so now have to sort out her funding…she is self-funding, and whether or not she buys an Immediate Needs Annuity to fix her care costs.

Anyway…a great relief. Hospital wants her out as soon as…as she is bed-blocking…in the nicest possible way. Maybe week after next the home will be ready for her, then we’ll have to spend time with her to settle her in, and make sure that she and we are happy with the setup and care provided.

Maybe me and my Mrs will be able to have some time together and go away for a night or two in Nov. We’ve hardly seen each other for the last 3 months.

Mod edit; political comment.

really 🙁

Anyway the £86,000 cap on care costs is due to come in in Oct 2025…which makes decisions on an Immediate Needs Annuity a bit tricky…especially as the £86k will only cover care costs. ’hotel costs’ will not be counted towards the £86k and as these comprise much of any weekly care home charge the calculation and trade off becomes a bit more complicated given ‘hotel costs’ will have to be paid by my MiL for as long as she is in the home.

Must get my wife to ask the home for their care/hotel cost split. It’s not a worry either way as my MiL has squirrelled away a good pot for future care costs - good on her as that takes away a lot of worry we’d have over what would happen to her house, and we don‘t have to go (through the hoops and hassle) for any state funding. 👍
